Went on the night of England's (mis)interpretation of how to play football and found the place nearly full- a reflection of the stampede of those in the know to get a fine dining experience even in mid week. The food and accompanying drinks made a very enjoyable evening- crab starter and venison for me and turbot and choccy pud for the little lady, interspersed with (free) black pudding an a mini soup. All beautifully presented by excellent and knowledgable staff. A nice tawny port and a slice of blue cheese rounded it off. Go and enjoy it. Bon appetit.

To get a table you will need to book in advance, but it is so worthwhile. Starters of Smoked Pigeon and Mackerel were very tasty and nicely presented. Mains of Hogget and Turbot were to die for and the 3 tasting desserts got better with each one, finishing with the chocolate delice, WOW!

Prices are at the higher end but for a special meal they are worth it.

The service was excellent with each course explained, also enjoyed the little extras, black pudding bon bons, yum.

When visiting Ambleside again we will definitely book a table (if we can get in)!!

Found this place on TA so booked it. Small restaurant under Greggs! The menu and choice is excellent. Two free tasty amuse bouche. Smoked pigeon starter and venison main course. Both with such fantastic flavours. Desserts are just as good. Decor is simple and clean, service is efficient and friendly. Prices are very good for the quality. £68 for two all courses and drinks. You do need to book.

We walked in without really reading the reviews and were very surprised by the high quality of culinary skill in the food. It feels and tastes like a chef who plans the meals with his heart.

No kids meals but our kids made do (grumpily) through nonetheless...
