Description: Lucy4 Wine Bar & Bistro is tucked away in the backstreets of Ambleside and is a combination of cockt4ils, wines, continental and local bottled beers, soft drinks, together with a wide range of mix and match style food ... it's not exactly tapas in that the portions are bigger than tapas and a little more interesting in variety. It's a fun and fiendish place 4 everyone ... Ideal 4 Individuals, Perfect 4 Parties, Cosy 4 Couples and Fun 4 Families. Live Acoustic guitar most Sundays from 9pm. Open daily from 5pm and last food orders at 10.30pm. Set on two levels, with entrances at both - outside decking area as well as small, compact bar area. Friendly staff, all in all an interestingly, different dining experience - if you do anything ... do a chocolate fondue - be a Devil and try Lucy4!

Popped in here last night for a quick bite to eat as we had quite a big lunch and didn't want a full dinner.
It was explained to us that all dishes were like tapas, but more starter size than small tapas. We ordered some calamari, fruity Brie, salad, Italian style fries and ribs.
They came at different times rather than all together which we liked, it meant we got to try everything whilst it was hot.
We found everything we tried very tasty and enjoyable in an informal atmosphere. Glad we went in and tried it off the cuff rather than read these reviews, it shows we read too many reviews these days or we wouldn't have gone in

As a bar this place is quite nice. It has an extensive cocktail list and a variety of wines at reasonable prices. The food, however, lets it down. Everything tastes as if it has been deep fried and the sauces that accompanied the dishes we had had the same sweet and sour sauce taste, despite having different descriptions. The salsa which accompanies a few of the dishes is not salsa! The best dish we had was a salad. The service is not the best but to be fair they were rather busy. One of our dishes never arrived and there was no real apology for this. I would say that every table was full though so perhaps this place just wasn't for us.

Great choice, fantastic atmosphere, the best cosmopolitan I've had for a while! Staff helpful and friendly. You need to book to get in but it is so worth it

This is an example of a restaurant that tries hard to get everything wrong.
Unfortunately, it succeeds.
The dim lighting and the painting may be intended to give an air of devilish decadence and indulgence. In reality, it's to disguise the dirt. The grease on the bowls on the table was a deft example of the art of indolence.
The seating is truly diabolical, perhaps a nod to medieval torture equipment.
The menu is the true warning sign- I would say its excessively long but in the incredibly dim light eye strain kicks in after perusal of the first 20 items.
I really enjoy a laminated menu card. It exudes so much class and it can always be wiped clean.
The food itself is tapas in the style of an underfunded school canteen.
I can't really criticise the staff. They took our order, served the meal, gave the bill and took payment. Other than that we were left alone. No surliness but no charm either.
When I subsequently told friends we had been I received a look of contempt because they could not believe we had been so foolish.

We could only get a table at 9.30pm for New Years Eve and when we arrived we were sent upstairs to only be brought back downstairs and seated. Given menus and then.... nothing; no drinks order (not even water), nothing. And as we waited, and waited, we noticed that other tables that had been there already were having waiting staff come back and seemed to be telling people that something that they ordered they didn't have; as the other tables were clearing looking at the menu again and ordering other things. And we still waited and waited until at nearly 10pm, we gave up as clearly they didn't have enough staff nor food and they couldn't even take a drinks order within a half-hour. A complete disaster.
