Description: Lucy4 Wine Bar & Bistro is tucked away in the backstreets of Ambleside and is a combination of cockt4ils, wines, continental and local bottled beers, soft drinks, together with a wide range of mix and match style food ... it's not exactly tapas in that the portions are bigger than tapas and a little more interesting in variety. It's a fun and fiendish place 4 everyone ... Ideal 4 Individuals, Perfect 4 Parties, Cosy 4 Couples and Fun 4 Families. Live Acoustic guitar most Sundays from 9pm. Open daily from 5pm and last food orders at 10.30pm. Set on two levels, with entrances at both - outside decking area as well as small, compact bar area. Friendly staff, all in all an interestingly, different dining experience - if you do anything ... do a chocolate fondue - be a Devil and try Lucy4!

“Great atmosphere and good food”
Reviewed April 15, 2013

We visited here on Saturday evening and I am glad we did. We got a warm welcome and the menu & ordering system was explained to us as we sat down at the table. It was dark and cosy which I liked, a great atmosphere. The menu is vast, spoilt for choice. We enjoyed choosing our different dishes. The service was friendly & efficient and we enjoyed all the dishes we ordered. Our favourites being the 3 bean salad, mushrooms, pigeon & steak. The only reason I didn't give it 5* was the price, we found it expensive for the size of the portions.

“Not brilliant”
Reviewed April 14, 2013

I've eaten here on a few occasions over the years and I need to say that it has gone downhill fairly dramatically. It's moved from being a bit of a niche restaurant to being more like a member of a downmarket chain.

The most noticeable thing is the stickiness everywhere. The tables were sticky as were the wipe-down menus. I hate this. Also things are complicated - it really is quite difficult to make decisions and to determine how the "tapas" theme works. For tapas dishes the prices are far too high.

The food itself is uninspiring. The balsamic chicken was fine but the chilli cakes tasted of nothing other than potato and the Mexican Lasagne was truly awful - the menu description of this dish suggested a floured tortilla with a selection of Mexican beans. In fact it was a globby mess of cheesy dough.

On the positive side the sweets were delicious and the service was efficient.

Ambleside has plenty of restaurants all fighting for the tourists dollar. Lucy 4 needs to try harder, much harder of it wants to get its share.

“used to be great....not anymore”
Reviewed April 8, 2013

First went here 5 years ago when it was super...not anymore!
Booked for a family meal as the kids used to love it. Arrived early in the evening and were quickly shown to a table lit very poorly. Could barely see what we were doing.
No problems ordering as you simply tick a sheet of paper with what you want.
Food arrived randomly. The portions have diminished in size and the prices have increased in the recent years.
Had to remind them, when asked if we wanted pud, that we had not had all our mains yet. "oh right" was the answer.
Then had to ask if they would clear the table which was piled with dirty plates as there was nowhere to actually put our puds. "Oh OK", the answer. We felt like we'd asked something ourageous.
The fondue came without the kids favourite marshmallows as stated on the menu...asked about them "oh right".
They'd obviously run out as we had a bowl of the tiny hot chocolate ones put in front of us. Not easy to dip in a fondue.
And then the fruit which came with the fondue was poor. Apples not even cored...kiwis not peeled. The staff (well the one girl that worked there) looked and acted like she'd rather be anywhere else.
Meal for 4 adults and 2 little kids who barely ate anything £130
We will not be visiting Lucy 4 again.

“not happy”
Reviewed April 7, 2013

we go here most times for a drink or a cocktail, it is quite tired and could do with a bity of "tidying up", if your going to have real plants at least have nice real plants and not ones that are 3/4s dead. the bar area could do with some TLC aswell. two of the drinks we ordered off the drinks menu they no longer had, they shouldn't be on if they don't have them. at the end of the second night when we paid I was amazed to see that my glass of rose wine had cost £7.40!!!!!!! OMG how expensive is that, it would be good if they made you aware of the cost before you buy, I don't think I have ever paid so much for a glass of rose wine, feel lilke we were ripped off good and proper. the staff were polite and helpful. don't think we will be going again, very disappointed as this was one of our quiet little finds

“A deliciously different way to eat, ensuring variety”
Reviewed April 6, 2013

We love coming here, as it's great to be able to have a selection of little dishes to make up our meal! It's a lovely, cosy little hideaway place just off the main street so it's not like being in a goldfish bowl either. Great for kids too as they love the novelty that the selection of plates provides. The fresh fruit and chocolate 'fondue for two' is a must for desert!
