Description: The Priest Hole Restaurant and Tea Rooms are part of Kelsick Old Hall, one of the oldest buildings in the beautiful village of Ambleside in the centre of the English Lake District. With many original features the atmosphere may not be edible, but it does play a huge part in your dining enjoyment, and our friendly young team work hard in a refreshingly casual, but attentive way, to provide a relaxed and enjoyable experience. We are happy to accept single diners and large groups. We have a delightful outside terrace for alfresco meals on those warmer days, or just to sit and have a coffee and watch the world go by. (Dogs welcome on the terrace.) Seperate dining area for special occassion group dining.

I'm afraid my reviews are getting a bit 'samey', but this restaurant is yet another gem to be found in Ambleside. There are good gluten free options, the staff could not be more helpful and the food is beautifu Once again, it would be nice to live locallyl.

“Dinner at the Priest Hole”

Would have been very good as the food was good. The service did take a long time as it did seem they were understaffed on that day.

“Good Food And Nice Atmosphere”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 9, 2012

We never made a booking but were found a table for 4 with little fuss. The name of the place ''The Priests Hole'' was of course reason for great amusement among our crowd and we couldn't resist enquiring as to where it got its name. Obviously during Henry Vlll's reformation, priests were outlawed and this little pub was a notorious hideout for the clergy. The food was above average for places that we had eaten at in the area and the service and friendliness made it a pleasant experience. Ambleside is a beautiful/quaint little village style town with many nice little eateries around but when you're from downunder the historic type places ten to get your vote. I feel that you can't go wrong with this one. Good food, good selection of wines and pleasant service. And, yes the place oozes atmosphere. Not haute cuisine but not bad at all!!!!
