“England's gem”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 15, 2012 via mobile

I read once that the best time to visit The Lakes is between 1st January and 31st December....never a truer word said. Busy in summer and at holidays, obviously. My best time is in the autumn for all the browns, reds and yellows that come out in the trees. You can get all four seasons in a day so plan ahead, clothing wise. Tons to do and see from the relaxing to the energetic. Oh yeah, LOADS of fantastic pubs too!

“One of the most beautiful areas of the country”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 5, 2012

overall the area is compact allowing one to visit most of the area in a few days. Plenty to do whether it be rowing a boat, fishing, hiking, rock climbing or shopping or perhaps visiting a museum.June is a good month to visit as the weather is warm and it is less likely to rain then.

A pleasant contrast to the usual 'urbanity mundanity' so many of us live with.
Interesting local characters - especially the Herdwick Sheep - delightful and delicious !
Fells to fall for !
