“little gem of a place to stay and eat”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 20, 2012

stayed for 2 nights in the lowest priced room, did think about upgrading but thought the difference in price would pay for our breakfasts. The room was lovely, very clean, lovely fresh white bedding - the doors to all the rooms lead into a courtyard, you can park literally outside your room. As it is on the main hull to bridlington road its very handy for getting out and about but i didnt notice any traffice noise at all, it was very quiet and peaceful. The pub itself is spotless, very charming and 'olde worldly' and the staff are very friendly and helpful. We had breakfast both mornings (full english, freshly cooked) and ate both nights in the pub. Although at first i thought the prices of the meals were a little overpriced for pub food, when our first meal arrived i was astounded how large they were, the fish and chips were huge and the salmon with new pots and veg was very tasty. We just happened to drop on friday night 'pie night' and can i just say 'wow' the size of the pies are ginormous...full to the brim (i had steak and guinness) with the best chips i have ever tasted.
The only negative things i found were -- there was no bin in the bedroom (small one in the bathroom), we had no complementary toiletries the first night (some were left the next day) and because we stayed during the week there was quite a bit of noise from workmen who were in other rooms - perhaps it would be better if they didnt park their vans outside the rooms?

However all in all this was a lovely break for us, we would definately recommend it and will be returning on our next visit to the east coast - and we loved the fact that on our second night we had a visitor, a gorgeous tabby cat, who wanted to share our room with us - of course we didnt mind....haha

Stayed at The Gardeners for a couple of nights last week and was really shocked. Great set up with a traditional feel bar and a really good bar menu. Food served till late and a fantastic conservatory area to watch the kids play in the onsite park. Food arrived quickly and tasted amazing - definately homecooked and hearty!!! We stayed in one of the family rooms - excellent as we have two youngsters and they slept in the sofa bed downstairs while my wife and I stayed in the upper level. All in all fantastic value for money and would definately stay again when in the area.

Room Tip: Family rooms great with kids and spa rooms available for something a little more romantic!

We stayed one saturday night while travelling along the East Coast. What a gem this place is - lovely rooms with great service...and very well priced! We had intended to make an early start on the Sunday morning but we were so relaxed we stayed for Sunday dinner! It was great - in fact it was the best Sunday dinner I've ever had! I'd go back just to eat there! In fact, looking at my rubbish Sunday dinner, I wish I was there now!

Lovely countryside location - quiet and relaxed but oh so friendly. The manager, David, was very helpful during our stay. We stayed in one of the superior lodges which was spacious and clean. We ate in the pub - the food was lovely. I had a huge lasagne and my partner had a fish and chips. Well priced and high quality. I would certainly reccomend The Gardeners to anyone, and I will be returning without a doubt.

Used the hotel as a stopover on the way to north yorks coast - chose it as it for its rural location and the fact that digs were allowed. Rooms were lovely and spotless - loved the downstairs separate lounge area, perfect and great price.
Just felt it a massive shame that we were not able to eat inside because we had our dog with us - thankfully the weather was just about bearable for us to eat outside - food was fab.
I understand that not all places are dog friendly, but as the 'hotel' side was, wrongly assumed the pub side would be too. The more annoying thing is that a good dog on a lead is far less of a nuisance than four screaming kids that we had to endure chasing inside and outside while we were eating!
Nice meal, one pint and then trip to the local shop to have a drink in our room, with dog, in peace and at a fraction of the outlay!
