“Pleasant overnight stay”
Reviewed December 4, 2012

A good value alternative to the typical chain hotel. This guest house is situated on the outskirts of Hull in a pleasant residential area. Ample parking at the front of the property, and there is a bus stop right outside with frequent services into the City. It is conveniently situated for anybody visiting the University. My room(3) was at the back and therefore pretty quiet, with a view over the garden - pity I only saw it on a wet November morning, I'm sure it is very attractive in the summer. The room itself was of a decent size with plenty of facilities. There is even a microwave for those wanting to bring in an evening take away although as I ate out that night I did not use it. Bathroom very clean, no bath but decent shower. Good selection of towels and toiletries provided. Although I prefer a double bed, I found the single perfectly comfortable and got a good night's sleep.. The breakfast room is pleasant and also overlooks the garden, There is a good choice of cereals, yogurts etc available to help yourself to and the owner will prepare a cooked breakfast to order, which should set you up for the day. A nice touch is the complementary fruit bowl in the hall. Obviously, unlike a hotel, you need to let yourself back in later in the evening, and those with less than perfect eyesight might find the combination security lock a bit fiddly in the dark, it may help to carry a torch. Like 99Rita, I did not have any issue with the dogs, most of the time you would hardly know they were there. The impression I gained was that the owners work hard to provide guests with a pleasant experience and I wish them well for the future. Would certainly return if I am again in the area.

This guest house is close to city centre. Owner is a really nice lady. Room which I get was unbelievably big. Clean bathroom, fresh towels. Nice bonus with small "kitchenette" - microwave and small fridge. Free WiFi available. Can't say anything bad about this place.

Stayed for a couple of nights for my daughter's 30th birthday.

Overall, the room was comfortable (but squeaky bed). In our room the decor was a little tired, but I heard that others were ok.

Our big problem on the first night was a revolting smell from the shower drain. When we complained in the morning the landlady wasn't available and we got the impression that it was a known problem and we weren't impressed. But a later phone call from Janet did sort it out and things were much better the second night. £10 was offered too.

Breakfast was good and the garden would have been pleasant to walk in if we'd had longer.

Despite the initial problem, we'd go back and it was good value for money.

My daughter is at university in hull so I have stayed there several times and tried a number of different places. I'm very fussy, have stayed in lots of nice hotels and lots pretending to be high end but with tired rooms and poor bathrooms. The Acorn guest house is the best value by far in Hull. My room (7) was quiet, my bed was really comfortable and had lovely soft cotton sheets, it had a good sized, very clean bathroom, freesat tv with lots of channels, a microwave, fridge, kettle with tea and biscuits, iron and ironing board. Breakfast was a really tasty Full English with toast, cereal juice etc on the side.

Last week Janet was doing a deal and I got all this for £40 a night. Much, much better value than the city centre hotels. By the way, the dogs don't bark, so don't let that put you off!

Friendly service, clean and comfortable. Excellent breakfast.nice size room with en-suite and very hot water! Warm and quiet room. Definitely worth a visit. Forget the big hotels in hull centre. Been there , tried Them. This was far better value for money.

Very friendly and attentive service, breakfast exellent and room comfortable, with everything we needed.
The only downside was that as a married couple we were given twin beds and the shower was far too small and more often than not luke warm.
Overall though a good experience, which I would most definitely recommend.

Stayed overnight, comfortable room with microwave, fridge, tea and coffee making facilities, iron and ironing board all in room. Breakfast excellent, and a good location well done Janet. Location very good.

Room Tip: We rquested a quiet room and had one at the back with a balcony, very good.
