“Great Mothers Day Lunch”

We went with family on Sunday for Mother's Day. The menu was varied with plenty of choice. The staff were attentive & food was excellent. The beef is locally sourced and supplied by the village butcher. Would also recommend the beer battered fish & chips on the pub menu - it's excellent ***** We will definitely be back!!!

“What a fantastic little Pub”
Reviewed February 6, 2014

We were told about this little Pub through a friend who had been there last summer and who lived locally. When we were told that it had open fires we thought this is the place to go on a wet January night, and we were so pleased that we did. The food was exceptional, as was the service, and the bar staff were so friendly, they made you feel really at home. Not being local people we were treated as if we were, we had such a lovely evening, the food was exceptional, I had breast of pigeon for starters and steak for main course, both cooked to perfection, we will definitely go back again, and would fully recommend this lovely 14th Century Inn to anyone who would like a lovely evening with really good food. I would also like to mention that they do take away food as well, I have never seen that in a Pub before, so they really cater for everyone. Many thanks to the Chequer's Inn staff and hopefully we will see you again soon.

“Great Sunday Roast”
Reviewed January 26, 2014 via mobile

As I live in the area and have eaten at most (if not all) local establishments, I feel it's worth sharing the fact that for the best Sunday Roast, and indeed for the best pub/restaurant, you need look no further than the Chequers Inn in Smarden. Really super menu, great standard of cooking, lovely meat from local butcher (Dave Luckhurst), friendly service and broad selection of wines and beers. Enjoyed a fabulous Sunday Roast there today with family and all left with smiles and full bellies.
