We had a great Birthday Celebration evening here last night. A very nice pub, where we chatted to the regulars - and dog- by the fire, until we moved on to our table.
The staff were very friendly and welcoming, and the food was very good.
I was very apprehensive after reading some of the reports, but the four of us there last night could not have had a better meal or service.
Based on our experience, I would highly recommend The Bell.

As a group of 5 we had a table booked for 1pm and arrived a few minutes before. We were shown to our table and drinks orders were taken. At 1.25pm we had to ask for our food order to be taken - even though 2 tables that came in after us had already had their orders taken. At 2pm we asked how long the food would be and we were told that it was on the way and the delay was caused by one of our party asking for the beef to be well done... effectively, the waitress blamed us. (I can understand a well done steak taking time to be cooked... but a roast beef dinner)? When the footd arrived a few minutes later, it was mediocre at best (apart from the venison pie which apparently was delicious). At GBP13.00 for a roast beef dinner excluding drinks, this was not good value for money. An average Weatherspoons pub does a much better Sunday lunch for a lot less money. Overall... a real let down.

We stopped here by chance after being let down by a booking at a different restaurant. We both ordered the rump steak and I have to say the we both agreed that this was one of the best steaks we have had. The entire meal was cooked to perfection and the service could not be faulted.
We were only there for around an hour as we were on our way to a function but we will definately be going back.

It took an hour to get our meals, after having to chase the staff to take the order in the first place. On asking how much longer the food would be, the waitress "blamed" US for the delay because one of the diners had requested his roast beef well done. The food was fine when it eventually arrived, but not worth the wait. We were taken aback by the service.

Recently stayed nearby and needed an evening meal for several days. The food was good and reasonably priced. Went there alone and felt comfortable.
