We usually go the Hare as the food and service is reliably good. Took some visiting friends there for dinner and were disappointed. Despite having a reservation for 8pm we were informed straight away of a delay of 40 mins in the kitchen - decided to wait and were given bread and olives to 'keep us going'. When we placed our order, 2/4 of the mains had sold out as had the wine we ordered. When the food arrived is was ok, not the normal standard though. Joy when the fire was put out towards the end of the evening and the whole room filled with smoke - all our clothes, hair etc smelt. The main criticism I had was that when asked how our evening was, I said my criticisms about the food, wine and fire to be told 'sorry about that, its just been one of those evenings'. Great!
All said and done, this was unusual for the Hare and we always recommend it to friends and will continue to do so. Just had to have a British moan!
