Review of The Pantiles

The Pantiles

Attraction details
Recommended length of visit: 1-2 hours
Owner description: The Pantiles is an area of 70+ independent stores offering a shopping experience uniquely suited to finding that special something and rarely found in other shopping centres. Almost entirely all owner-run there are a variety of specialist shops, art galleries, cafés, restaurants and bars each offering their own particular style of trading. Festivals involving Jazz, Food and Fashion are frequent along with fortnightly Farmers' and Craft Markets showcasing the best of the region's talent. Immerse yourself in the 400 year old history of the location brilliantly reflected in the elegant tree flanked colonnaded walkway. Summer months also present visitors with the opportunity to sample the waters of the Chalybeate (pronounced Ka-lee-bee-at) Spring whose discovery back in 1606 marked the beginning of Royal Tunbridge Wells.

I live in a small village in the North West of England. There are no decent shops anywhere near. The Pantiles had awesome small shops stocking lovely clothes etc. I want to live here. I went to 'Pure' that stocks cashmere and silk clothes. Wow !

This is a very pretty part of TW and it is worth a walk around, you can certainly get a feel for how times used to be and it is inspiring in that way. Cafes are slightly over priced and there were a few boarded up shops which is just a shame to see.

Loved the feel of the place. Place has a vibrant atmosphere with all the pubs and cafes having outdoor seating. Very much enjoyed the diverse nature of it all, and the curio shops are fun to browse even if you can't find ( or afford ) to purchase. Love the number of second hand book shops in this area.

I visited here recently and found it to be a mixture of cafes and small independent shops. On certain days of the week you can also try the spring water which has an interesting taste. There is also a bandstand that sometimes has a band playing music. The Pantiles is worth an hour of your time if you're visiting Tunbridge Wells.

Jazz is such a great atmopshere for the Pantiles every summer. It's wonderful to eat/drink at Woods or Kirthon and listen to the Jazz with a huge crowd. Such a sociable event, we hope for balmy Thursday evenings every summer!
