Description: Located in the centre of Tunbridge Wells, The Wells Kitchen offers a pub with modern decor and a comfortable atmosphere. The bar features a great selection of drinks, focused on affordable quality with a twist - the premium spirit and cocktail list has been hand crafted by two barmen with over 15 years of experience and knowledge between them, listing both classic and modern drinks as well as a selection of original recipes of their own. Upstairs is Bar Kitsch, our lounge bar open on Friday and Saturday nights till 2am. The town's funkiest bar combines relaxed areas with an upbeat feel, fantastic drinks and areas available to reserve. Our food is locally sourced and prepared fresh by our head chef, Chris Cook. It focuses on pub classics as well as modern dishes and some fantastic game and steak. We also have a lighter, grazing menu available in the pub.The venues unique twist comes with a locally sourced selection of lagers and ales on tap - no mass produced brands, just home-grown quality in a glass. The range offers something for everyone and our wide range of some of the worlds number one lagers and craft beers adds even more depth! We're more than happy to help you in the initial choice that will keep you coming back for more. Areas are available to reserve every night of the week and we're able to host anything from 10 - 150 people upstairs in Bar Kitsch or in the pub. The pub is also child friendly - we have highchairs, colouring books and crayons to keep the little ones entertained!

“Decent meal, friendly but tense staff”
Reviewed June 13, 2013

You can't fault them really. Prices were reasonable, staff was helpful with drinks advice, high chair and childrens menu etc.

The light lager was well-advised and the 'small' glass of wine was very generous indeed.

OK so the smoked trout fillet starter seemed to be a quarter of a budget pack that you would find in ALDI, and a bit dried out at that. And the Chicken Burger was a big bun and little chicken. But nothing to complain about.
Salmon was fried well. Our daughter liked her fish sticks, too.

What was striking was the rather tense interaction between staff. No arguments but not a lot of smiling there. Perhaps it was some tension before a Saturday Night rush, or a boss coming in, who knows. And they didn't let it spill over to the customer's side, so well done. But perhaps it's time for a staff-outing?

“A Great Gastropub”
Reviewed June 7, 2013

Many pubs are interested only in diners and beer drinking is seen as a perfunctory prelude to the main event. At the Wells Kitchen the beer is a major selling point and it is a pleasure to find knowledgable bar staff who are clearly proud of their fine range of beers and who see beer as complementing good food.

We tried two of the local Tonbridge brewery beers and were most impressed with the bitter and even more impressed with the hoppy Blonde Ambition. We started with the smoked trout - very tasty, if a little on the slim side. Luckily the steak burgers more than compensated with a generous filling of tasty meat that was cooked exactly to our requirements. The hand cut chips were crispy on the outside and fluffy in the middle - just right. Lovely service too - attentive but not oppressive.

This was not an especially cheap night out but it was excellent value for money.

“A great place to try”
Reviewed June 6, 2013

We had a great time at the wells on our first visit, slightly disappointed that the pork belly had run out but the haddock and chips and the sirloin steak more than made up for it, in fact the haddock was approaching the best I have ever had.
Very knowledgeable and polite staff made the experience even better.
Will definitely be bringing our friends and family to try this out themselves.

We went there for a friend's 50th birthday and had a great night. The food was absolutely delicious (try the fish and chips- huge portion!). We were so well looked after by the waiter who was warm and friendly. Lovely atmosphere and amazing value! Have been several times previously and have always had a great meal and excellent service.
