“A Very Special B&B”
Reviewed May 7, 2012

We were blown away by this house and the scale of the renovation that the owner, Harold, has undertaken over the last 8 years. The whole experience felt as though we were staying with a friend, enhanced by the fact that we were invited to have tea and cake with Harold and two of his own friends who were visiting from Australia. This was a lovely touch and made us feel very welcome. Our bedroom was lovely and very comfortable, it overlooked the rear garden and was peaceful and quiet. Breakfast was an experience in itself! Harold brought everything to the dining room and then the 2 of us were left alone in the room to enjoy the tasty food. It felt like eating breakfast in a National Trust property! Fabulous and very decadent! Harold also went out of his way to serve us afternoon tea when we arrived back from sightseeing each day. Loose leaf tea and fine bone china, together with homemade cake (different each day, including Victoria sponge with fresh cream and strawberries and lemon drizzle cake)! Absolutely fabulous experience in every way.

We were a party of five and when we checked in were treated to afternoon tea (part of the rate) in the drawing room with a real fire. The tea was served in traditional style, bone china, silver and even cloth napkins. A Victoria sandwich cake with real strawberries too! Delightful.

Everything worked well and was very comfortable with everything you needed. Harold even ironed a shirt for us. Harold was a butler and it showed, we were treated to a weekend of experiencing and enjoying how the 'other half live'.

I would highly recommend this B&B especially if you are a group of friends. Breakfast in the dining room was wonderful and we could choose our time and were not rushed on.

Highly recommended for a delightful experience.

Last November we stayed for two nights at this very special B&B. I had come across it on the internet and with the website already looking amazing, it was even better in reality. Harold is the perfect host and the house absolutely marvellous in all it's Victorian glory. Still a work in progress it will be even better when the upstairs rooms are finished and you can stay with a group of friends or family and enjoy dinnerparties in the frontroom. Harold is a good cook who served us the nonfattest full English ever and I also don't want to let his Victorian sponge go unnoticed.

We recently saw this b n b on the internet, and as we love all things victorian it instantly caught our attention.

We decided to give it a try on february 25th for the night as we were down in this part of the country and were not dissapointed!

From the moment we arrived outside the property we had huge smiles on our face!

The house is a huge victorian villa, built around 1860 and still very very original! It is located on a beautiful road all of which hasnt changed much since 1860, just 2 minutes walk to the town centre.

We approached the front entrance, and we were immediatly greeted by harold the owner, i must stress harold is the one of the most friendly and welcoming people i have ever met! A true gentleman!

He proceeded straight away to give us the grand tour of this grand old house! And WOW the restoration this man has undertaken is amazing! The attention to detail is second to none! He has been collecting paintings and antiques all his life and they make the house feel just as the victorians would of wanted it. It definatly feels asif we had taken a step back 120 years in time! All of the rooms and areas are beautifly decorated and furnished with traditional materials which makes for a very comfortable experience.

Our bedroom was on the 2nd floor and was wonderfull, very homely, with the ensuite being very new, and very nice! The bed was an antique wooden one and the most comfortable bed i have ever slept in! The room overlooks the manicured garden. And we both said we couldnt beleive how peacefull the house is.

Harold is very flexible and asked us what time we would like breakfast, we asked if 9.30 am would be ok, of course this was fine! Wen we got down to the dining room, everything was set out ready for us, cereals, coissants, jams, tea, coffee etc then came harold with a cooked english for both of us, this was cooked to perfection, all with what was obviously very fresh, local ingrediants.

We have traveled all over the world staying at alot of 4 and 5 star resorts / hotels but this is hands down the best and most enjoyable place i have ever stayed at, ive come away smiling from ear to ear, knowing that ive met a great person like harold and had the oppurtunity to stay at this fantastic house!

We will definatly be back!

Stayed recently at the Victorian B & B in Royal Tunbridge Wells. What a fantastic experience! Proprietor Harold Brown worked for the Royal Family for over 30 years and has tremendous knowledge of all things Royal and Victorian. If any of this interests you, well, this is definitely the place for you to stay!!!
Harold welcomed us with a lovely afternoon tea and showed us to the Garden Room, located on the ground floor. As the name suggests, it overlooks the beautiful back garden - very serene and tranquil. The Garden Room was so comfy and very quiet - just perfect for a good night's rest. All the linen provided was top quality and Harold was very accommodating in taking care of all our requirements.
Overall, couldn't have asked for a better experience!
