Fun for the children and old alike.

Special events for children - Father Christmas, Thomas the Tank etc. and older Fish and Chips, afternoon tea etc.

Slow trip to Groombridge past the High Rocks and back again. Scenery is lovely - think of the Railway Children film.
Fun event especially as it is supporting such a worthwhile cause with dedicated volunteers.

This railway makes a very pleasant half day out if you just like the countryside; oast houses, woodland and general atmosphere; a full day if you love steam - you won't get bored. Even if you don't spend all day on the trains, there are nice walks especially around High Rocks. We enjoyed the country junction feel of Eridge and had lunch at the pub at Groombridge - it gives 10% discount on food - remember to show your ticket! The staff are very friendly and happy to answer questions.

When we went it was a 'Fowler weekend' - two steam engines from the old LMS railway - but I believe the usual service is half diesel, half steam. We weren't charged any extra for it being a special weekend with all steam, which I thought was very fair.

Just one area for improvement - the station at Tunbridge Wells West is a bit sub-standard. This isn't the Spa Valley Railway's fault - the old BR station wasn't available and hopefully once they have been running long enough to build up some reserves they will be able to improve their own premises which I think used to be the old engine shed.

I can't comment on disabled or baby facilities as I didn't check these out.

The picture that I added is of a visiting steam engine that was there on our visit, but the Spa Valley Railway has its own steam engines.

A lovely day can be spent going in old (and they have that distinctive old smell - (do they spray something or is it just as it is?) where you clatter along behind a steam engine. But for the early pictures and the occasional toot toot of course you could be pulled along by anything.

The ride does stop at some convenient stations where you can get a drink or so.

They put themed days on - Thomas the Tank Engine days are of course popular and but for a bit of dressing up and some large faces on the front of the trains it could be any other day and train - however, they do work if you have kids of a certain age.

The older kids are taken back to a time when this was the height of expense to ride on a train and to have the steam billowing and toot toot and chuff chuff..

All in all a relaxing fun day for all

We went for a day on the spa valley railway, the cost is 6pounds for a single or 10 for a day ticket (they don't offer just returns) also for railway staff you only get priv if you work for southern! The station master keeps you well informed on the progress of the train. You can use the train to access other attractions such as Groombridge place and gardens, Highrocks and Eridge. There is a small buffet on site and a small shop. Its a great day out for all ages.

Brilliant day out for all the Sir Topham hat was a great entertainer conducting Thomas and the Naughty Diesel engine. Punch and judy show was great and so was the face painter.

Get over to Tunbridge Wells west station and have a great day
