“Unique Nature Reserve in a chalk pit !”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 21, 2013

Intriguing location - a small Museum housing variety of archaeological artefacts and natural history : Mammoth teeth etc. Also a secondhand book section....and why not ! A winding trail takes you through the chalk pit itself, climbing up to circle around the whole site affording interesting views. All sorts of flora and fauna, including a Bat Cave and an Observatory. Fee very reasonable.

“nature lovers treat !”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 2, 2012

A lovely and peaceful way to explore nature in the safety of a proper reserve with a free natural history/geology and archeaology museum and great secondhand bookshop to explore.

Activities for adults and kids alike include various nature spotter sheets to increase your knowledge as u walk and pond dipping from Spring. They will loan binoculars if you ask at reception. There are also free art materials in the picnic area (lovely view of cliffs !) for them to create their own drawings of nature.

There is free car parking as well as toilet and washing facilities. If you become a member from £10 a person for the year or £15 for a family(absolute bargain !), even less with concessions you can also make yourself free tea and coffee !

All in all a great place to spend a few hours and chill out !

“Fabulous unspoilt attraction”

The nature reserve is going from strength to strength. Volunteers are busy creating a living classroom, an open space for schools and clubs to sit or explore the nature on the reserve. The observatory has a new lease of life and can be vistied every Saturday when Danny is there to share his celestial knowledge! There is a third pond being developed especially for younger members.
Inside the Field Study Centre is going through further changes to make the best use of its space. There are more activities and events going on here each year as more people discover it.Yet it remains unspolit and quiet haven not just for wildlife but us humans too.
Open 7 days a week.
