Styling itself as the 'only' royal harbour may or may not bear scrutiny. Portsmouth and Plymouth both have Queen's Harbourmasters. Be that as it may, Ramsgate harbour is a harbour. It has fishing boats, the occasional ferry to Belgium (we didn't see one) and a load of yachts. There again, the same is true of Dover, Harwich, Oban or Larne. Architecturally, Ramsgate harbour has the usual features - customs house, piers and so on. It's got a bit of history but, again, so have most harbours.

The one word that keeps coming to mind is 'unremarkable'.

The harbour is very picturesque. I was a little suprised to see that there is very little 'edge protection', i.e., guard fencing/fence rails, to stop people falling into the water, so beware if taking wheelchairs/prams/pushchairs. While we were there a body was fished out of the sea just off the harbour (Fri 13th), so use common sense and take care.

We were here for a few days which were very warm at the end of the summer, and the harbour was very nice but wished there was more to do there, I do realise its a working harbour and we did have a boat trip, when we finally found the man who organised them which was great but think there missing a trick as if your a tourist at a harbour you do feel the urge to get on a boat.

We liked this harbour because it is a genuine working harbour, very quaint, and full of history and quite a lot to do. We spent most of our time in Ramsate there and on the excellent beaches. We didn't know until we had left Ramsgate about the Sailors' Church which was a pity, as I should like very much to have visited this. All along the seafront is very quirky and therefore to me much more interesting than Broadstairs.
