Owner description: We are the first micropub to launch in Dover. The others are in the main ex staff with their own ideas of how a micropub should be. Our flexibility in approach include treating customers as adults and we allow you to relax without being forced or fined to do things that may make you feel uncomfortable. We lead - we do not follow. As the original owner of the Rack I am very proud of my little shop and the services we provide... Subject to contract I am about to move on to pastures new - It is time to let someone younger come in with the passion and ' youth ' and I ask you continue to support the Rack as you always have. I wish to thank you all for your support. Hail to the Rack - we are a beer festival everyday - open everyday and sometimes until 0100 in the morning. We love gimmicks and schemes = follow us on facebook / twitter to find out what is happening. at this moment in time I have suspended the website.

“How all pubs should be”
Reviewed February 7, 2014 via mobile

Just got in from a fantastic evening in Dover, this pub stands out as firstly there is no bar and secondly it feels more like home than being out. The service is amazing, table service, warm friendly and welcoming. The beer/cider selection offers lots of choice without any of the usual lager/beer nonsense in chain pubs, the gem of this place is that if you don't know what you want, have it all, a 1/3 of a pint tray is available so try three beers or ciders as you wish instead of sticking with one choice. Equally the staff are keen to offer advice on what they have and make recommendations. I could only wish for this type of selection, service and atmosphere in my home town, so a must for all visitors to Dover

“Great micro pub”
Reviewed January 26, 2014

Dover was crying out for a decent little pub and now it has one in the form of The Rack of Ale in Park Street. The owners Trish and Steve are friendly hosts and make you feel welcome as soon as you walk through the door. They serve some great local ales but I prefer the elderflower and ginger ciders. As its small it can get busy and there are not many seats but there is always a table to lean on and it is a great way to meet the local community. Food is not served here apart from the normal pub snacks which are mainly sourced locally.

We normally go in for a quick drink but end up staying for hours as we always have a good time.

“Micropubs at their very best”
Reviewed January 8, 2014

This new addition to Dover is more than welcome and an absolute gem. Run by a delightful couple with help from another delightful couple when required, the atmosphere is warm and friendly and lacks some of the impersonal touches some micro pubs can have. Convivilaity and warmth are the names of the game. The ales are superb - we are very regular visitors and neither our party or anyone else has even had anything short of praise for the beer. There are usually 5 or 6 on at any time. For non ale drinkers like me - hooray! A choice of 4 or 5 delicious ciders (although all are quite strong) and some not run of the mill wine choices mean there is always a choice. Soft drinks are available in the form of tea, coffee, coke, lemonade and also kentish apple juice - completely delicious and not like any I have ever tasted. On cold winter days you may be lucky enough to find Trish mulling the ginger cider - it is divine and makes the day better somehow! Children are not welcome, dogs most certainly are. The phone policy is 'on silent' rather than nailing mobiles to the wall and I welcome this slight relaxation in the usual micropub policy. As well as serving local ale and cider, they also stock local crisps and also pork pies, scoth eggs and cheeses for those who need the munchies. Quite often little bowls of snacks like crips and nuts will appear without having been askedfor; very welcome. You will occassionally also hear live music, but acoustic only - somehow lots of musicians seems to have naturally gravitated there. Whether you choose to pop in on a micropub tour, sit and read or spend the evening with friends or family, your welcome will be warm and you will want to go back.
