Owner description: Dover White Cliff Tours offers sight seeing tours in and around Dover. Take a novelty 40 minute boat ride around Dover's bay, on a historical wooden boat built in 1935. On the trip you will receive a commentary from the captain and any children who want to will be invited up to steer the boat. Or take a short bus ride up into Dover's Cliffs to see some amazing hidden history: St Martin's gun battery (WWII defensive structure), the Drop Redoubt (one of the biggest Napoleonic fortifications in Europe), Dover's historic town and much more; all with a running commentary. Get the chance to stand on the white cliffs and walk off into the sun.

We loved this tour. The little cafe was so great. The food was excellent and the cook and captain were so nice. We had a great time on the boat and also on the ride up the cliffs. Quaint and lovely!

We decided to book this tour thinking "Dover White Cliff Tours" would tour the famous white cliffs.

Sort of.

This is a short 40 min harbour tour. You don't get anywhere near the scenic cliffs. You can see the iconic cliffs from the harbour but not without binoculars and obstructions.

The price is low, and the cruise is short so it is a nice way to get out on the water with kids. The commentary is nice as well. The staff are informative, pointing out features on the shore but you NEVER leave the confines of the small harbour.

I would have liked to see the iconic white cliffs, but we only saw the single white cliff under Dover castle.

If you were hoping to sail along the magnificent cliffs you will need to find a service that takes at least 80 min or longer...otherwise you too will just take a ride around the harbour.

Buyer be well informed and ask questions so you too get what you think you are getting.

Dover was a one day stop on our transatlantic cruise. I worked on the internet and email to set up a day tour with Richard at Dover White Cliff Tours. It was a combination the Day Tour to Dover Cliff/Canterbury/Deal/Sandwich/Folkestone and Capel (including the boat/harbor tour) at 48 pounds per person. Weather was fair (bad during the boat tour).

Richard isn't much of a guide. He offers minimal information as he drives the tour bus, but when he gets to some of the tour stops, he basically just sets you off on your own without guidance, much less taking you on a tour, etc.

It is a decent way to see the country and some of the villages, but with some research about alternative transportation, you can probably do it on you own for less and maybe have more time in the good places.

There just doesn't seem to be many good tour operators in Dover since almost everyone travels to or from London airports, etc.

I did the combination boat and bus tour. I am not a fan of boats, so the short harbor tour was fine for me and it was cute seeing the little kids "pilot" the boat. I got a few decent shots of the cliffs but not a great view.

The bus tour wasn't terrible - but not brilliant either, it was worth it to jump off at the cliffs and walk around and explore them solo.

For 15 pounds I can't complain. It finished off my day nicely. If it had been more I would have been upset, but it was just right for the price paid. If you're looking for something more indepth or longer this isn't it.

But the cafe - totally worth a visit! Homemade teacakes, and pleasant staff!

A pleasant chug around Dover harbour in a 1935 boat with lots of other people. Good views, convivial crew, long enough to be interesting and short enough to leave you lots of time for other things. You can see the white cliffs, but you don't go very near them. Pleasant enough and worth doing.
