We had a couple of hours before our Eurotunnel Le Shuttle left for Calais, so we drove up to Dover to see the White Cliffs. We were able drive right up and park very near the edge. There were trails all around, very close to the edge so you need to watch your kids. It was a clear day, and we could see the sheer white cliffs dropping down, the ferries in the harbor below, the clear blue sea and sky, and the hazy shores of France in the distance. So nice to get out in the fresh air and enjoy the view!

The White Cliffs are somewhat of a forgotten gem in the British Landscape and we found that it was great to take a winters day walk up to the top and along the cliffs looking out over the mirror flat water to the coast of France and even just watching the busy hussle and bussle of Dover port from the top.

If you have that time I would suggest you take a walk up to the National Trust visitor centre where you can stop for some cream tea or snacks before continuing on towards the old lighthouse.

Began from Dover Priory Station, and made way to the docks, and onward to the White Cliffs. The initial climb starts off steep and trying right away...and it doesnt take long before the aerial views of the Dover Docks, and the channel begin to reveal themselves. People with health issues, balance issues, or fear of heights, be warned.... the path is very narrow at times, steep and intimidating....but the rewards are endless once the summit is reached. Plus, once you reach the lighthouse...St. Margaret's Bay is just around the bend closer towards the shore...where you can catch a bus taking you back to city centre

Took the in-laws for a day trip out on the first sunny day in 2013! Was a real treat as the views were brilliant, France was spotted. It was oddly hypnotic watching the ferry port in operation and the NT restaurant and shop were a welcome stop for refreshments. There was a couple options on the walks out to the Lighthouse across the cliffs so we did a loop. Although the paths were a little muddy (not surprising with the January just gone), the walk was very enjoyable. We will be going again.
