Great long walk, hilly, to the castle, given a map as a self guild. Spent hours admiring the history and views. Medieval tunnels closed due to flooding (couldn’t be helped) The Great Tower held an informative tour with period dressed tour guilds.
Will go again.

I do love the English Heritage sites around England. Our visit to Dover Castle was a spectacular one, the World War Two tunnels is worth a visit to. The grounds of Dover Castle is big enough for a whole day trip. Highly recommend this on a sunny Summer's day when the weather is great and you will be able to see France. There's some lovely views from Dover Castle of the town too.

i was last here 22 years ago when the castle was empty barr a model of the battle of waterloo and the tunnels weren't open - big improvement! friendly staff too, who tried to help you make the most of your day. £16.50 per adult unless you're a member of english heritage, but worth it. wasn't expecting to enjoy it as i found it quite dull last time, but the castle came to life with the bright tapestries and furniture in the rooms and actors in role. the tunnels were great - interesting info and well worth waiting an hour outside in the wind and rain watching the ferries in the distance coming in and out of the harbour. hospital tunnels good too and a much shorter queuing time. we had a wheelchair in our group and didn't seem to be any access problems. good access to food and drink outlets and food fine and lots of toilets - all well-signed. little train does the rounds (pulled by a land rover) from the top of the site to near the bottom.
only negative=few too many screaming children round the keep for my liking, but inevitable i suppose

Thank thisbe

It has been along time simce my visit but i remember enjoying it, i enjoyed the tunnels the most! After take a drive to the cliffs and the visitor centre Dover side or St Margarets Bay a bit further on. You can walk to and from both if you have the time. Its a lovely walk.
