Description: We hope you're feeling hungry... Look forward to robust, fresh flavors served with imagination and flair in east Kent's newest contemporary restaurant. Our Head Chef presides over heavenly menus that change regularly and use locally caught fish and locally sourced produce. The wine, beer and drinks list is also top notch. Old school... New World... Kent wines from Kent vineyards... Local real ales... Great taste is everything at the Marquis.

We have just returned from a fantastic lunch using a Travelzoo voucher for the four course tasting menu. The service was very good and the quality and variety of the food was excellent. For a tasting menu the portions were perfect. Some restaurants scrimp for this type of menu - not here and the breads are very tasty. We would definitely recommend this restaurant and will return. It's worth the 30 mile drive.

I bought the 4 course Kentish taster deal and what a deal it was! Although it is advertised as 4 courses you do get an amuse bouche which was a lovely tomato pâté with crispy flat bread this was followed by the delightful menu which included ham and fresh broad beans, skate, hogget and homemade parfait ice-cream with poached pears all adequate portions, superbly cooked and delicious. The additional selection of homemade breads was great for anybody with a larger appetite and the friendly attentive staff were happy to replenish all this included in the cost no hidden extras!. The local wines are excellent if a little expensive but English wines are and the carafe wine was very good value. Loved it and will be back soon to sample the other menus. No wonder this place was full on a Monday evening!

We were invited to a lunch at the Marquis by friends who have used the Hotel/Restaurant before. They have always rated the place very highly. The restaurant was busy (Saturday) and had a relaxing atmosphere.
We were not disappointed. We chose the Kentish 4 course menu. The food was excellent and was probably the most tasteful food that I have eaten. The service was also first class and we were treated like royalty! If you want a real treat don't drive past "The Marquis"!

This was a midweek lunch, five-course tasting menu and had much to commend it with the exception perhaps of one member of the dining room staff (not those serving food!) - accounting for the "average" service and atmosphere ratings. Sadly, in common with other notable restaurants, the wine prices were wildly inflated, but good to the taste! The food was excellent with quite a few pleasant surprises, not the least of which was Great British Menu chef Charlie Lakin making the time to talk to us about the food and its preparation, as we waited for a taxi. Never mind; it was the food itself, Charlie and the lovely helpful lady in reception all helping make up for a frankly unpalatable "other."

Thank you for taking the time to review The Marquis.

We would like to apologise for the member of the dining room staff that appears to have let the team down on this date for what ever reason, if you would like to discuss this directly do not hesitate to contact us either via email info@themarquisatalkham.co.uk or via telephone 01304873410.

We are in process of making changes to our wine list to both simplify and reduce cost to customers.

Glad you got a chance to meet and speak with Charlie (he doesn't come out of the kitchen very often).

We hope to see you again.

Kind regards

Called in while passing and surprised that they could fit us in. Have not been for a couple of years owing to poor treatment in the past. The place is looking a bit tired, the odd lamp shade missing, the odd light bulb out, the general uncared for feeling. The staff were polite, but their clothing and general attitude was once again tired. Having said all of that the food and drink were of a good standard, the menu, I thought, was quite limited, but what we had to eat was cooked by a chef who knew what he,or she, was doing. Would I go back? I don't think so, something has changed and not for the better. The front of house staff, and the Manager need to have a good look at the situation.

Thank you for taking the time to review your Sunday lunch here at The Marquis.

Firstly we would like to apologise for the general attitude and clothing of the staff members that were present on the day you came they have been spoken to and will improve on this.

We try our best to keep everything in working order and change light bulbs when they are out, not always possible during service.

Our Sunday menu individually priced and caters for people with various dietary requirements, also changes weekly depending on seasonality.

We do hope that you will change your mind and return to the Marquis.

Kind regards
