“Needs a full day”

Although this is an expensive place to visit, there is so much to do.

Visit the ropery and make sure that you volunteer to take part in the rope making demonstration. Very interesting and good fun. Also really enjoyed going on the submarine although you need to be quite agile to get around it.

Tickets are valid for multiple visits in one year so if you can manage it, it becomes better value.

“Very expensive”
Reviewed February 6, 2014

A good range of stuff to see but you need to work at getting your money's worth. Well over priced sadly so you need time to justify the expense.

Thank you for taking the time to review The Historic Dockyard Chatham. We are sorry to learn that you feel that our annual ticket price was ‘overpriced’. We feel that our admission fee has always represented great value for money. Our ticket includes six museum galleries, three historic warships, the amazing Victorian Ropery, up to three incredible exhibitions, year round family activities, large play areas and the world’s most complete dockyard from the Age of Sail. Plus discounts on experience tours and our special events! It can also be used for unlimited return visits within a twelve month period. Most importantly as an independent museum and charitable trust the proceeds from our visitor admissions are reinvested to ensure that this important piece of British maritime heritage is preserved for generations to come.

Visited with my wife on a wet and windy day which was why we chose it.
The history of the place is great, getting to tour the submarine and other ships was good.
The rope house tour very good and good for the kids as well.
The ticket enables you to visit all year although i wouldn't rush back.
The cafe/restaurant was in my eyes expensive so if you have a family bring your own food and eat in the large mechanics shop which also houses a kids playground.
All in all a good day and a worthwhile place to visit

“Great place to return to with kids”
Reviewed December 12, 2013

The dockyards are really interestign for both kids and adults - plenty of boats (some indoors too) and atttractions. Some of the larger boats can be visited several times. The retired submarine is a must! There will be some ducking to do on the submarine so if you have walking difficulties/bad back, beware.
Highly recommend.
