From submarines to ancient ships, ropery and intereactive attractions. Lots of specialist days held here too, including 1940's days. Wet or dry this place has lots to see and do.

Having lived in Medway nearly all my life, this is one of those places that you're aware off, drive past most days, and have visited several times during the Dockyard's overcrowded big set piece events (navy days). But having visited earlier this year, on a very uncrowded March Morning, there is just so much to see. The place is vast, there's a huge variety of exhibits, ships, a submarine, art gallery, police museum, set amongst docks where it looks like the industry just stopped yesterday. All the staff / volunteers are enthusiastic and the place just oozes history and military / industrial significance at national level. Of course there's lots of vast historic sites requiring huge budgets to maintain, and medway has more than its share of these, but this place is a jewel and I think most of Medway (including me) simply overlook it's presence. I would definitely recommend to families with young children (loads of stuff to explore / climb over), probably not for teenage kids so much unless they have a particular keeness for history (this place is as much about social history as naval), but visiting as an adult with time to take it in and read some of the history - absolutely excellent.

This place is packed with history from 3 historic ships to a huge rope factory - there is a historic life boat display, timeber, balcksmiths, trips on a paddle steamer (extra charge), gardens and a huge under cover space.

The trains that ran throughout the dock yard are also displayed.

For children there are hands on events including meeting a pirate!

A reasonable cafe is on site and we would recommend the outstanding fish and chips.

We could not see it all in one day, so will be using our 12 month ticket again.

All in all a great fun day
