Having wanted see this "attraction" for some years we were most disappointed when, having at last found ourselves near enough to go there, we were so detered that we never even got in!

Firstly the £15 entry ticket is for a year whereas we are very unlikely to be in that part of the contry again. The inescapable implication is that they insist on charging much more than any usual one day ticket. What a weird way of pricing! If I want a sandwich I do NOT expect to pay for a full blown dinner!
The final straw was that they intrusively demand personal information: Being fairly private people we do not readily give out personal details but they insisted on knowing where we live and upon our declinig to disclose that information we were told they "could not proceed with issuing the tickets" !!

Needless to say we turned away, sadder and wiser, and wondering at the weird thinking of whoever decides such matters.

A good day out. Lots of history and a good place for children. Warships and a submarine to go aboard where you can experience what it was like on ships of the past. You may see rope being made in the 1/4 mile rope making shed. We were lucky and did. You can get drinks and snacks and sampled some good food at lunch time. When we visited they had a Titanic exhibition and that was first class. They do have a web site which gives more details. We spent a day in the dockyard and found it to be a good experience.

We visited Dicken's World before we came here which was a mistake because it took time away from a much better attraction which takes more than a day to explore fully. On the other hand the comparison between the two was enlightening; the Dockyards are a real piece of history, beautifully preserved and looked after and of course it could be nowhere else. Dickens World would be better anywhere than where it is and is a cheap and shoddy memorial to a great man.
Things we liked - the chance to go into a battleship, a training ship and a sub; the professional way that the tours are timed ad managed; the friendly and knowledgeable staff; the Ropery Tour with the wonderful Mr Steve.
Things that we liked less - poor service in the restaurant; poor selection of goods in the shop; the lack of anything from the Titanic in the Titanic exhibition.
Room for improvement - more interactivity, especially for kids.
We really appreciated the tickets that allow entry for a year. There is so much to do that we had to miss quite a bit. We will certainly be back.

When you are in county Kent, pay a visit to the Chatham Dockyard. It is a must go see for all those who like ships & history. You see all kinds of ships, learn about the naval history over 400 years, enter a submarine and see how life is on board of one. Go to the ropery and find out more about ropemaking. Or make a piece of rope yourself!! This is really an educational fun day out!! A great way to spend a holiday!! So go see the Chatham Dockyard!!!!
