“Great location to explore Canterbury & wonderful breakfast!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 23, 2012

My husband and I have stayed at Ersham Lodge on a number of occasions and continue to return because of it's location with easy access to the high street for shops and canterbury cathedral. The owners are friendly and helpful, ensuring we made the most of our visit. The rooms are basic, and in keeping with the house - but have everything you could need for your stay, tea/coffee etc and ensuite facilities. We are always comfortable here. The highlight of the stay has to be the breakfasts, with an array of choice and a fantastic full english which set me up for the day. We happily return for weekend breaks.

The single room I booked for two nights was appropriately for Canterbury about the size of a monk's cell. The bathroom is so small it was hard to fit into. The towels are mean, small, thin and old. Breakfast is fine and, surprisingly, the tea kept simmering in an urn is good. However, breakfast is served only between 8-9 which can be inconvenient for travellers and holiday makers.
The owners are friendly if you are friendly but appear a bit edgy if they perceive a complaint.
If you like Fawlty Towers, you may enjoy this.

Rooms were dirty, there were hairs in the toilet and in the shower (which was by the way hidden in a cupboard). If you are five minutes too early for breakfast, the lady will let you feel it. Moreover, a strange smell could be remarked in the whole lodge. Was ist due to the mumified cat exposed in the center of the dining room?
In the first minute you enter the house you'll have to choose your breakfast. But do it wisely; there is no chance of switching afterwards. You should not be afraid of spiders and cobwebbs

I stayed in Ersham Lodge two times before.
After the second visit i decided not to go there again. It was not what i wanted.

After 2 years, we went to the Ersham Lodge, for the family room(with 3 adults), as seen on the website.
This was a big disappointment! It was the same room we had a few years back, now with 3 beds..
The picture and description on the website was completely different.. no sound system, no DVD player...

On top of this the room was not clean to my standards, and had old furniture, bad beds.
There was a very small TV, with no remote control, in the closet there was mold...

After the one night stay i talked with the owners about the room, and asked where the room from the site has gone. They told me "we don't have a room like that" I showed it on the website and they told me the site was hacked... Now, after two weeks, the site is in the same condition as the months before our stay. This is misleading customers!

The hotel has a few good points aswell: free parking and free WIFI. Also breakfast was good.

A lovely character building with good parking.Owners nice friendly people but let themselves down as the room was very dusty and in need of a good clean, and also central heating was barely on whole time of our stay, despite weather being very cold.

Ersham court kindly put us up at the last minute as we'd booked at the coach house inn and they had problems with the bathroom. We were slightly disappointed to be further out and the rooms weren't as pretty, but luckily they agreed same room rate. To be fair for the quality of the room I wouldn't of wanted to pay full rack rate. The bed was comfortable and quiet, but the shower was a nightmare, either freezing cold or scoldingly hot. Breakfast was nice with a fair selection. On all fairly average, but nothing special

Myself and a couple of girlfirends stayed here on a Saturday night after visiting Canterbury for the day.

The owner was pleasant enought but the room we stayed in looked like it hadn't been cleaned for a long time. The carpet needed a good hoover and there was dust on every shelf and flat surface.

It's a lovely building but needs a massive overhaul to bring it up to date.

On the whole it was just somewhere to sleep for us but I definitely wouldn't go back.
