We booked this guest house because it had a car park, which is a bonus in Canterbury, and it was about a 10-15 minute walk to the Cathedral and the other atractions. We had a very comfortable room on the first floor at the front. The road to the front was quite busy but not too noisy at night. You have to order your breakfast the night before, and there was a reasonable choice. Just a pity the weather wasn't very good when we were there - but umbrellas were available.

We had a double ensuite room on the ground floor at the front of the house and were afraid of the street noise but there was none. The windows were double glazed and completely shut out any noise. The room was beautifully decorated and completely modernized. The bed was excellent and the towels were so gorgeous and fluffy. There is free parking at the rear of the house which we had no trouble locating with the excellent instructions we had been given. The location is not as convenient as some but the room was worth the walk. It is about a 10 minute walk into the centre, the cathedral and restaurants.

Harriot house is clean, the staff are fine and the location is quite good, however i do not really think it warrents four stars. All the basics are there but thats about it. Breakfast is ok but cant help thinking they are working to a tight budget. I would suggest quite a good two star, but for Canterbury i guess the value isnt too bad.

We are a 4 star guest house as rated officially. This does not mean that we are a 4 star hotel which would generally have more facilities and space. We are a small bed and breakfast offering clean, modern and comfortable ensuite rooms with free parking. We are proud of our breakfasts and are certainly not working to a "tight" budget. In fact we use a local award winning butcher and use free range eggs. We are regularly thanked for our food and have just completed installing a brand new kitchen. Thanks for commenting on our lovely staff, our cleanliness and good location.

We stayed in the family room which is 2 rooms sharing the converted attic.

Good points: Very friendly, we had a problem with the heating not working and it was quickly fixed. Ensuite is in the middle of both rooms. Excellent breakfast and service. Location ideal for sightseeing, only a short walk to the centre, and parking onsite.

Bad points: low roof - had to be careful not to bump your head in places (and the additional light switches are at the foot of the bed - not very useful when you would have to crouch down at the foot of the bed to reach them!), toilet flush is VERY loud (hard to sleep through when the adjoining room use it), and the shower does suddenly go scorching hot - these are possibly problems associated with converting an attic? The carpet in one of the rooms was quite dirty, but the rest of the room and ensuite were very clean. Our main concern was that both rooms have a hatch with access onto bare loft rafters, and open easily (one popped open when we closed the bathroom door). They are far too accessible for children (bearing in mind it is a family suite) and we were concerned that our 3 year old would try to climb in. We have suggested to the management that they put a lock on this, as this is in our opinion, a very real health hazard to young children.

On the whole though, we did enjoy our stay and would recommend it to others.

We are glad that on the whole you enjoyed your stay at Harriet House. It was a pleasure to have you stay.

In all our rooms we have bedside lights that can be switched off directly beside the beds. The comment about the wall hatches in the room has never been mentioned before, however we feel that they are sufficiently covered by furniture to prevent access by young children. These rooms do have some sloping ceilings but also have plenty of full height areas as well.
