My wife and I wanted an early evening meal and we turned up at 6.00.p.m. We were fortunate that there was a table available until 7.30.p.m. (which gave us plenty of time) and learnt that it is advisable to book. The blackboard menu is not a long one but provides tempting choices and we both found that that our food was delicious. The service was excellent as well and, if and when we return to Canterbury, we will make sure we have a booking for another meal at Salt. We found out that the menu changes with the seasons and so expect to find different dishes on offer next time.

The rustic room is appealing and the staff were very nice. We were looking for a change from pub food but we were under whelmed by the food at Salt. The menu sounded promising and the food was good but somehow the flavours just didn't quite make the mark. We were lead to believe, or thought, we were going to get something more but.... We had the goat cheese and almond balls with rhubarb - interesting but the cheese over powered the rhubarb, which could have had a more intense flavour for a better balance; the rolled lamb shoulder with anchovy - we were expecting more flavour from a braised lamb dish, we felt this dish was quite bland; the wild garlic and spring onion potato croquettes were so light on garlic and onion that it was completely unnoticable and the Maldon salt that they were finished with fell to the bottom of the bowl instead of garnishing the tops of the croquettes so it was only on the last bite of croquette that I tasted the salt and realized that there had been an attempt to season them; and the asparagus with duck egg was fine but perhaps a few flakes of Maldon salt could have elevated the flavour of this dish a bit. Food was attractively plated, but the flavours lacked the wow factor that we were expecting.

Really good restaurant with an imaginative menu served tapas style in a great atmosphere. Prices are reasonable, service is friendly and attentive. Try the potted crab and then try everything else!

Having read all the reviews we were pretty excited to try this place, but were pretty disappointed! Great service from lovely staff, but the dishes we ordered just didn't taste of anything much. They weren't bad, it's just a shame they were so bland.

My friend and I had lunch at Salt after a busy morning shopping and it was just what we needed!

We sat outside as it was such a lovely afternoon and being a side street, it wasn't quite as busy as the High St (see next paragraph). The meals are all 'starter' size, so have a tapas/meze feel but with more British style fare, so you can choose the size of meal you'd like, whether you'd like a separate starter or just a snack. The food was well presented, fairly priced and delectable (all of the dishes were amazing but the goats cheese & almond balls with rhubarb compote stole the show!); the service was faultless and incredibly friendly.

My only minor criticisms would be that when sat outside, it would be nice if the eating area could be cordoned off; passers by walk in between the seating areas, which is quite off putting - especially when a large group of tourists ploughs through! Secondly, there needs to be more 'greenery' on the menu; maybe side salad/veg? The only option was spring vegetables; so the meal can look very brown!

We shared 5 dishes between 2 and this was more than it looked, particularly for lunch! However, we managed to squeeze a dessert in; we shared a lemon & elderflower posset with gooseberry jam, which was quite large and very rich - we couldn't manage it between us, let alone if we'd had one each!

All in all, a very delightful meal from Salt and I will definitely visit again at some point!
