“Absolutely recommended”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 7, 2014

A proper celebration of food. Many creative recipes in small portions and absolutely perfectly prepared. Pig cheek highly recommended. And a very good Bavarian draft beer "Hacker Pschorr".

“I think the reviews are too generous for what it really is”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 28, 2014

I went to salt due to the raving reviews I've read here on our date night.
Also I really liked the decor of what was there prior to Salt - the Hutch.
They have changed the decor so to look like partially an 18c pub + tables and chairs from the 1980s... strange.
I found the food not too exciting - plain and nothing fancy compared to the names and their prices.
The portions were really tiny. We ordered four dishes - because we actually had something at home already - and I thought I could have had the four dishes on my own and still wouldn't have been enough. The wine is also quite pricey - 4.50 for a medium glass (175ml) and the waitress didn't even bother to fill it up to 175. (but I sympathize with her, she was waiting on all tables the whole night by herself poor thing!)

“Great food”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 26, 2014 via mobile

Me and my boyfriend came for lunch on a day trip to Canturbury and were really impressed! The dishes are all really imaginative and cooked perfectly, I especially enjoyed the duck and rhubarb jam with candied nuts.

“One of Canterbury's Best”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 26, 2014

We have recently had some bad experiences with local Canterbury restaurants who used to be good but are now going downhill (you know who you are), but thought we'd try one we had not been to before. We were attracted by the reviews of Salt and were blown over by the experience. It has a tapas-style menu with dishes in the £6-7.00 range. Not sure how much to order, we asked our waitress, who said they were "like large starters" - and so it proved.

We chose 4 dishes: garlic potato croutons (i.e. breaded potato balls), partridge with crispy parsnip and rhubarb jam, smoked duck ham (didn't know ducks had hams) with candied pecans and watercress, and a Jerusalem artichoke-based mixture of vegetables with truffle oil, wrapped in a Savoy cabbage leaf.

The flavours were incredibly well judged, the portion sizes were perfect for OAPs and the wine was excellent (we had a bottle of the house white Rioja). Rather than the dessert we had the cheese board - all excellent and English, with the Colston Bassett blue a stand-out success.

On our way out we had a word with Emma, the Chef. She has an exceptional palate - on a par with Steve Harris at the Sportsman at Seasalter, and a rare gift. All the right flavours, and definitely in the right order!

The meal for two, including aperitifs, a bottle of Rioja and two large glasses of Shiraz together with the cheese (yes, we travelled by taxi) came to £69.95 - exceptional value.

Salt deserves to thrive.

“The Perfect Date Night”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 23, 2014

We’ve visited Salt several times in the last few months and have loved it every time. The local and seasonal menu means there is always something new and exciting to try, but the almond & goats cheese balls are a must! I love the small plate concept as it means you can try a bit of everything and it’s perfect for sharing.

The wines are top quality and it’s great to have the selection of European beers & ciders to choose from, rather than your standard pub stuff.

As well as the high-quality produce, one of our favourite things about Salt is the amazing atmosphere. It’s a really intimate and unique restaurant and the staff never make you feel rushed. It’s the perfect place to go for date night as you can take your time and share some amazing food & wine.

A really relaxed and informal way of eating, but with food to rival the fanciest of London restaurants!
