This is a really good cycle ride or walk from Toddlers' Cove play area. Park up or walk / cycle to the car park at the cove and set off upstream. The track is well maintained and level, just next to the river. There are few worthy stopping points on the way but quite a lot to see, especially for the kids, like a farm on the other side of the river and plenty of cows and wildlife. When you arrive at Chartham you can pop out onto a car park at the village hall so the end of the line is reasonably safe. Chartham has a church, pub and convenience store and, if you are fit to drop, a railway station where you can hop on a train to take you straight back to Canterbury West. Apart from the car parks at the beginning and end there are no vehicles to worry about - but there is a chance of children cycling into the river which is sometimes deep and fast in a few areas.
Allow 2 hours or more if with children. If you are a grown up and cycle reasonably swiftly: one hour max for the return trip.
