“SLOW, SLOW, SLOW SERVICE”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 24, 2013

Visited here on 11 May with a couple of friends. Ordered a bottle of rose bubbly and 3 glasses. The place was quiet as it was about 5pm so lunch time rush had ended and evening rush had not yet begun. Still waiting after 15 minutes we asked how much longer our drinks would be!!! After a further 5 minutes or so it arrived. The waiter uncorked it and poured the drink one of which went all over the table!!! Not very professional.

“Lots of potential but very unorganised!”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 24, 2013

Firstly let me start by saying this place is in a great location with some nice character inside (including its own bakery and a roof terrace) and a great list of beers. The food is also good if you're just looking for a quick lunch although I probably wouldn't come in the evening.

The service however is pretty poor with the staff seeming quite unorchestrated. The lack of a managers presence (whether there was or not) may have contributed to this as there were definitely enough staff to attend to all the customers. It took at least 10 minutes for a drink order to be taken from us but the food and drinks when they did arrive were pleasant, especially the croque monsieur. Some background music would have also been quite nice.

So basically if you want something to eat and drink you wont leave being sick however I cant rate it any higher due to the clear need for better management and staff training, which is evident during every visit.

“Enjoyable drinks”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 9, 2013

We went to Le Trappiste for the first time yesterday evening and really enjoyed our visit. We just had drinks (beer for hubby, tea for me) and both were good. it was a lot more atmospheric than we though it would be, some live piano music and a nice bustling but relaxed feel to the place. Impressed with the look of cakes and homemade bread; we'll be back.

“Great beer and lively atmosphere”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 13, 2013

Loved the place. Discovered it late on Friday night while we were searching for somewhere we could enjoy a drink with our family and three (young teenage) children….most bars being over 18 etc. This place was a real find. It serves food, has a lovely rooftop terrace and seating outside the entrance too. I first entered before the rest of our group (7 in total) to ask if we could come in for just a drink and the staff were so accommodating. They have an amazing selection of Belgian beers. Ok so the beer is not cheap but this is the place you go to get wasted. There is a lovely feel to the place and although the waiting staff seemed a little clueless on their beers, they were very friendly and polite. We returned on Sunday afternoon for a coffee and again everything was perfect. I took a bunch of their business cards to pass on to friends.
