What a fabulous coffeehouse and not a tax dodge in sight. The location is off the beaten track, down Water Lane by the museum and next to the river. The drinks and food are first rate. The ambience is chilled and it is easy to while away the hours. There are sofas and tables and chairs. Take your laptop and pretend to be working or just let the time flow like the river. This is the perfect antidote to the standard High Street coffee shops. It has become something of a must for us each time we pop down to town.

I go to Browns regularly to get away from it all. Just a couple of minutes walk from the busy high street, Browns coffee house is the place to go if you're sick of busy coffee shops with sky high prices and watered down coffee. The staff are very friendly, attentive, but not in an annoying, patronising way, and very knowledgeable about a good cup of coffee. Reasonably priced, if you don't mind paying for quality, there is an extensive, regularly rotated drinks menu, ranging from various blends of teas, local juices and of course, many varieties of coffee.
It's in an idyllic setting, next to the punting station on the river stour, near the secret gardens and just off the high street. The interior is nothing less than you'd expect from an independently run coffee house, comfortable sofas, large tables to do group work, or smaller tables if you fancy some alone time.
The atmosphere is relaxed an welcoming, with a constant soundtrack of excellent music played throughout the day. I've never heard of anyone who doesn't enjoy a visit to Browns coffee house.

When I graduate in July, a part my degree is owed to Josh and Kat Brown!

Can't believe that we have not found this fantastic place sooner. My partner and I went for a Saturday afternoon coffee yesterday and had a wonderful time. The place is so chilled out and very welcoming as soon as you walk though the door, its nice that there are bits of canterbury's history in the decor and locally produced cakes. The coffee is amazing and 1 soon led to 2, we could have quite happily stayed all afternoon. We hope to be regulars in this wonderful coffee shop.

This is a truly wonderful cafe if you like understated comfy places in back streets. It's gradually getting popular so pick your time. I was never a coffee shop person but many is the day in the last year that I have popped in here and stayed all day. Very good cakes but no sandwiches or other food. Excellent Mao Feng Green Tea. Great, cool service.

Cannot rate Browns coffee house enough - excellent coffee, lovely pasties, great atmosphere ... and they are so baby friendly (good baby changing and pram friendly ... the staff even helped me in with the buggy!) Browns is my fave hang out in Canterbury!
