Went to see Paul Merton and friends in a comedy Impro.
We were a group of 12 and were very comfortable in our seats the acoustics and view were both very good. If I were to have a grouse about anything, it would be the drinks at the interval, a bottle of coke that costs just under £1 in Tesco or slightly less was £2.20 thats a tad too much of a mark up for me. Otherwise a good venue

I knew the predecessor well and the new Marlowe is a brilliant improvement.

One is hit initially by the striking exterior design, something that is visible from most corners of Canterbury. The interior then provides a second visual delight with its wooden, high-spec finish.

I would imagine it is difficult to find a bad seat in the house and therefore I would recommend that everyone in Canterbury should visit at least once.

Recently booked a matinee performance with the Marlowe Theatre. Paid with credit card and was not given any ref number or e mail of confirmation.
The day of the event arrived and by sheer chance my friend who was accompanying me said there was not a matinee for this show on the day. After checking with the booking office they told me I was booked in with a completely different show, just offered apology and refused to compensate me in any way for their mistakes. And , there were no tickets available for the original show I booked and paid for!!!
Got a refund, but am totally disgusted with their customer service and organisation of bookings. So beware when you book and make sure you get reference numbers and staff names before parting with your money.

We went to see 3 shows at the Marlow and loved all 3 of them: Moscow Philarmonic orchestra as part of the Canterbury festival, Budapest Festival orchestra and an excellent theatre play which was barely advertised and for which not even programmes were available. Moreover, I tried looking up the names of the actors (who were all excellent) on Marlowe's website - no info was available!! The biggest problem with the Marlowe is that high quality but non-commercial shows like this are barely advertised, whereas the 'bilboards' are usually reserved for tat and children's shows.

i so agree with a previous reviewer re the phantoms song choice.i pride myself of knowing songs from many musicals and have been in amateur versions of loads.however, didnt know half of the ones sung at this show.it was such a shame because the singers had fantastic voices.i know every song in phantom of the opera but felt that there would be some in the audience who didnt recognise the chosen ones.and the least well known songs from 'love never dies' were used.and what a strange way to finish the show.the theatre was a third full if that.maybe their set list preceded them.when songs were sung that were well known it was amazing.they could have just done a show of rogers and hammerstein and lord webber, with bits of les mis chucked in.not sure who in the audience had seen 'book of mormon' i cant get tickets and after hearing a song from it i wont be rushin.moral of story SING WHAT PEOPLE EXPECT TO HEAR WHEN YOU ADVERTISE AS THREE PHANTOMS. rant over.thanks.
