RSPB Reserve Blean Woods

Very lucky to live near these woods. Routes are marked out short route about half hour, then red route about 3 miles, I often run this in the summer. Then a black route about 7 miles. Not a bird watcher but just wonderful to loose your self in the woods. There is route also for dog walkers so they do not disturb the birds.

Beautiful scenery with big and exciting tree to admire. Such a peaceful place to be to get away from it all.

We went for a walk along the brown trail with my toddler. It is long enough for little legs and not too difficult. Will have to go back in Bluebell season as I imagine it will be picturesque!
Only 4 stars as there are no facilities here and the so called picnic area is comprised of 1 picnic bench!
Will be trying out the longer walks though.

This is a fantastic resource, so close to the city centre. There are lots of marked routes or you can go 'off-piste'. I've walked here many times and still find new parts I've never seen before. In a pleasant way one can easily get lost as there's always the temptation to explore. But you can easily find your way back onto one of the marked routes if you need to. There's a good carpark although the road to it is unmade and it gets muddy (lovely) in the winter. Set routes for dog walkers avoid wildlife protected areas. Large playing fields (football etc) on the way in are good if you take children who don't want to walk with you.

I love this place. Ancient woodland is my thing. Although Canterbury is by no means a big town, if you need to get away from the busy streets then I'd go here. With an abundence of flora & fauna and a wonderful feeling of isolation, the Blean is a rarity in this densely populated part of England. I only wish I could spend more time here!
