“A lovely Sunday lunch”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 26, 2013

Last Sunday, we visited the Parrot (formally Simple Simons) for lunch after being turned away from a fully booked Dolphin Hotel.
The portions were generous, the food tasty and the service was great - very friendly. The burgers were delicious, and the vegetarian stack burger, although messy (but the waitress did prewarn us) was lovely. The roast was equally delicious with a large selection of vegetables.

“A hidden gem”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 16, 2013

Was told about this place by a fellow guest from a local hotel, after searching the local area managed to find it tucked away off the beaten track. But what a find, the building (One of the oldest in the city) looked stunning from the outside and upon entry was greeted warmly by the manager, who then took time to go through the menu, as i've got various dietry requirements. I was made to feel at home by the other staff too, who all seemed happy in their work. Such a refreshing change from the big chains.. The food and atmosphere and staff will certainly be bringing me back agiain.

“Lovely pub building, average food, arrogant staff.”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 15, 2013

I have been coming to this pub for many years now and have seen it decline from an atmospheric, warm and friendly local with live bands to the generic and pretentious place that it is now. Admittedly, this is the curse of many pubs in order to survive these days. Recently we had a reasonably priced but very average roast here and the young man serving us clearly thought he was very witty and charming but in fact he came across as utterly arrogant and condescending, boasting about his previous experience in high end restaurants. His manner was completely overbearing and utterly forced. Furthermore the bar staff behave as though they are doing you a favour by serving you.

“Great outdoor eating/drinking”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 16, 2013

Really enjoyed the meal and drinks - the garden is so relaxing, the staff are excellent. Wonderful old building dating from 1370. Location good-not too close to the maddening crowds, but close enough to town centre. Was in Canterbury only 3 days - the Parrot 2 days...

“Delicious, great ambience, and great prices”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 11, 2013

This was the first place we ate in Canterbury and highly recommend it to anyone. It is just what you would expect and hope for an ancient English pub, and the food is very good - and the prices are excellent.
