The Falstaff in Canterbury

Really well placed for visiting historic part of Canterbury as well as close to the University area. Spacious, easily-accessed car park a real boon so close to the West Gate. Quiet, pleasant bar - no restaurant. Breakfast a bit disappointing - kept running out of everything at 9.30 (breakfast until 11.00 at weekends). Room 27, 4-poster in old part of hotel was gorgeous. Huge and wood panelled with a lovely window overlooking the street. Full of character and very comfortable. Staff pleasant and helpful.

Dear Caroline WR,

Thank you very much for your recent stay with us and also for taking the time to provide us with your comments. We are delighted to hear you slept so well in one of our new beds and that the location suited you so much. We do apologise for the slight delay at breakfast which can happen from time to time during the peak period but glad it was not too much of an inconvenience. It is also nice to hear that team looked after you and we very much hope you to welcome you back to The Falstaff in the near future.

Kind Regards,

John Alexander
Operations Manager

The Falstaff is definitely your place.

My parents were visiting over the weekend and we wanted to visit Canterbury. The Falstaff Hotel helps you to get immersed in this incredible city. The hotel has so much history but is very well kept.

On top of that the staff are incredibly friendly, which at the end of the day is what makes a difference.

We'll be back!

Stayed for two nights early August with group of friends on a walking weekend. Very convenient location and very comfortable. Adequate parking, which is very convenient given the location close to centre of the City.

My husband & Istayed for two nights to visit Canterbury for the weekend. A beautiful building with lots of nooks & crannies and history. There are two annexes - the Old Mill and the Tap rooms which are both just across the hotel car park. We had room 49 in the Old Mill which was a spacious comfortable room on the first floor. Very comfortable bed and the room & en-suite were impecably clean. The hotel & Tap rooms face onto busy roads - but the Old mill is at the back ogf the hotel so quieter - though the ajoining pub does have a beerr garden which you can hear on warm dry evenings.

Breakfast was lovely with plenty of choice and a night cap in the coutyard from the hotel bar was great.

All of the hotel staff were very welcoming, friendly & helpful. The reception staff in particular were great - creating a brilliant first & lasting impression.

The hotel is in a great location for visiting Canterbury both by train (Canterbury West is just around the corner) or by car - do follow the instructions on the hotel website for directions from the M2/A2 as it is so easy rather than trying to work it out yourself & falling foul of the one way streets, restictive streets in Canterbry centre.

Definately would recommend the Falstaff & visist again myself.

Room Tip: Rooms in the Old Mill are quieter as away from the road - but as this is not part of the main &...

My wife and I stayed for one night here. The building is beautiful, the staff are lovely and the breakfast was great. As other reviewers have pointed out the quietest rooms are in the Old Mill and ones facing away from the street as it is on a busy road of which the hotel can do nothing about. We had room 30 in the Tap rooms which was very large but at ground level. On the positive side we had a lovely view of the Westgate but it was rather noisy though I slept better than I thought I would as the bed was comfy. I would recommend this hotel for its welcoming atmosphere, cleanliness and its charming courtyard and would stay here again

Room Tip: Try to book well in advance and get a Mill room or a rear facing room

We stayed at The Falstaff as we were going to the theatre. I requested a room in the Old Mill at the back of the hotel as I had read other reviews on Trip Advisor. The room was spacious and clean. The breakfast room was very busy and we did have to wait for a few minutes for a table but staff were polite and helpful and the breakfast was worth the wait.
I will certainly stay here again when I go to the theatre next.
