Gardens just by the city centre, as others have said a bit small and needs TLC but some interesting points make it a good place to visit. Wooden Fort / Maze / play area for kids is very good and a safe place for kids one entrance/exit. Close by is the mound with good views of Canterbury traffic from the top. There is a nice walk in corner set out in a small area but very interesting. Small snack bar is open in summer. Never seen any band in band stand.

Where did all the grass go, The Dane John Gardens use to be a great place to relax, but all the grass seems to have disappeared! Sadly a little TLC is needed.

It was worth the climb to get to the top of the mound in the gardens for the view. Overall not spectacular gardens, but somewhere to go for a relaxing stroll with the opportunity to see Canterbury from a height.

Walking from our guesthouse into Canterbury we passed this garden and when returning at sunset we just had to stop and visit it. The city wall 'protects' it from the busy and noisy ringroad. The top of the mound delivers a good view over Canterbury and surroundings. The gardens are really close to the shops ant city center so no excuse to not visit them.

For visitors who are spending a couple of days in Canterbury a short walk out of the city centre to the Dane John Gardens / mound are worth a morning stroll after breakfast. It’s well signposted on the tourist maps and is closer on foot to the shops than you may think. One side of the gardens is bordered by the old city wall which can be walked along to the Dane John Mound (which is easily spotted by the obelisk) which is one of highest points of the city commanding excellent views. There is also a unique centre marble fountain in the park, a bandstand and plenty of grassed areas.
