“Still waiting for the manager!”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 27, 2013

We recently stayed for two nights, the location is perfect right next to the park and ride. Thats the only good thing though, the management are terrible. When we arrived there was no member of staff available to book us in we stood for 15 minutes and after a long journey this was extremely annoying. Eventually the kitchen manager had to do the job and we asked to speak to the Hotel manager when he came back on duty. We were told he would visit our room, we were there 2 nights and he never did!!! Had one evening meal in the restaurant and to be fair it was extremely nice, however you have to sit where the waitresses can see you or you dont get served! The room was ok, very draughty, empty shower gel bottles in bathroom and not replaced the next day either, bed was comfy, needs to be cheaper could have stayed in the centre of Canterbury for the same price!

This is about the 4th time we have stayed here and I'm pleased to say we will stay again on our next visit to Canterbury.
I think the rooms and corridors have had a lick of paint since our last visit just over a year ago.
We had a room on the road and whilst the DIY double glazing didn't cut out all the traffic noise it didn't bother us. However light sleepers might want to request a room at the rear.
Our room was large but we only had a shower cubicle. All the bathroom fittings were modern and the shower controls were easy to use and adjust. Rooms were cleaned to a good standard and plenty of tea and coffee supplies. However as with previous reviews this is an old building and therefore there are creaking floorboards and thin walls with bad fitting doors that slam shut. But this is what you get with old buildings. The breakfast was well stocked with cereals etc and good service from the staff.
All in all a good base to explore Canterbury. We didn't use the park and ride as the weather was nice we walked in along the Old Dover Road which took around 30 mins.

Room Tip: Insist on a rear room for quiet.

This hotel has a great location, it is right next to the Canterbury park and ride site and only 20 mins drive from the ferry port at Dover. It could be a really successful hotel that you would return to time and again. It is currently being refurbished and although our room had been reserved four weeks previously it was scheduled to be painted during our stay. It took two members of staff ages to sort out why the computer would not allow us to check in. Eventually an explanation and apology was given. The room overlooked the dustbins/car park and was not particularly well furnished or attractive. The fan in the kitchen below our room was very noisy. The towels, pillows and duvets were good quality. Breakfast is self service and everything is prepackaged. Our first breakfast was accompanied by the sound of power tools whilst the door next to the breakfast area was being repaired and rehung, hence it was freezing. The waitress did not apologise nor offer to move us, simply put on her cardigan and remarked how cold it was! We intended having our evening meal each evening in the adjoining pub. The first night was so disappointing that we ate elsewhere for the rest of our stay. The food was expensive and poor quality. There is access to the hotel rooms by a fire/security door directly from the car park and guests are given a key for this. However this was twice wedged open with a log, presumably to get rid of the smell of paint. This made me worry for my safety and security of my belongings. Arriving at the hotel around 4pm is problematical as the car park is used as a pick up area for a local school and it is difficult to park. Altogether a very disappointing experience.

Avoid Room 8 at all costs. It is over the kitchen and has a roaring fan set into the wall just below the window which will keep you awake unless they switch it off early (not while we were there). Also all the bins are directly underneath.

Room Tip: I am unable to comment on the other rooms. Ours would have been fine had it not been located over t...

Stayed here with the family after returning my oldest daughter to university in Canterbury. Problems with the plumbing meant that we had two rooms one to shower in and the family room to stay in. The rooms are well furnished and really quite well laid out, the problems are with the bathrooms, the last refurbishment of the bathrooms was not completed to a very high standard and has left a bit of a legacy for the inn to deal with.

The food and service in the restaurant were very good for a chain and we all ate very well, the younger members of the family enjoyed the children's menu.
The continental breakfast that is included in the room price makes the whole stay really good value.

Room Tip: The rooms towards the car park are probably a bit quieter than the rooms at the front that face out...

I stayed here for one night when I went to a wedding on saturday. The staff kindly let me check in early and change as I had very little time! The wedding was within walking distance (Winters Barn). I had a good nights sleep - v comfortable bed - the room was at the rear of the Inn so no traffic noise 9whether there was any or not I dont know). Breakfast was continental, i wasnt aware of the option of a cooked one, it certainly wasn't offered. Very standard, altho the helpfulness of the staff was great. I didnt eat and neither did I try the beer altho they has Doombar so should be good! At £65 for one night for one I didnt regard it as cheap, and here should have been a full cokked option for breakfast.

Room Tip: Ask for a room at the back of the building
