The service was slow and the waiting staff not particularly welcoming but the food was wonderful!
The Victoria offers a great carvery with plenty of eating space and comfort. We enjoyed a lovely meal and a delicious choice of desserts in pleasant surroundings. We have eaten here on many occasions and will happily continue to do so as the food is tasty and good value and there is a general good atmosphere about the place.

I visited the restaurant recently for lunch with some family members and was quite disappointed with the service and the food.

It took nearly 10 minutes after we were seated for someone to come over and take our drinks order and provide menus. It took about another 10 minutes to actually arrive.

The food arrived around 30 minutes after we had placed the order. We did think they had forgotten us at one point. I ordered the cheese and bacon burger with onion rings on the side, and was disappointed that something quite simple could be so tasteless. When I have ordered similar meals in other restaurants and pubs, salad is normally provided in a burger so I found it odd that this did not. The burger, chips and onion rings were all frozen, and not homemade. I don't think the menu said homemade, but I have bought frozen before and it has been tastier. Disappointing meal for the price paid.

After finishing our meal, the plates remained on our table for another 20 minutes before they were cleared away. We asked for water to be brought over which also took ages to arrive (and without glasses).

When we asked for the bill, the waitress completely forgot about us and we had to ask again. We probably could have walked out of there without paying, and no-one would have realised. I don't know if they were understaffed or didn't know what they were doing, but the service was really slow.

Other reviewers have had a more positive experience, so maybe this was an isolated incident but I won't be returning.

I booked the Victoria hotel carvery for a family Christmas get together as we have been there before and they were happy to take a big group booking and the price was reasonable with ample parking. On arrival we had drinks at the bar and were shown to our table by a very miserable waitress. It was a considerable amount of time before anyone came over to see if we were ready to order and when they did there was no smile or friendliness and despite the whole table sitting there with no drinks we were not offered if we would like anymore. The carvery vegetables, potatoes and stuffing (which seemed like paxo) were cold and very poor quality. We asked the waitress for some drinks and had to chase up where they had got to as they took so long to arrive despite the restaurant and bar being quiet for a Saturday night. We then had to ask the waitress for the bill as it was evident that we was not going to be asked if the meal was o.k and if we would like the bill. The service and quality of the food was very poor so it was a disappointed family.

Went here with some work colleagues for our christmas meal due to a rather limited budget. It was a clean and presentable resturant. However there was a few spoilers one was that the vegetables were raw, the vegetarians had to wait after the meat eaters had gone up and selected their food although i was ensured it was cooked and served separately.. not sure how as it was all the same in the same dishes. Also some of the staff looked rather disinterested and bored. Aside from these minor faults the people i was with made it pleasant but the food was not up to standard at all.

After being shown to our table we sat and watched other table arrive after and be served before us. We had to grab a waitress as she passed by from one of these table to actually place our order. When the plates were taken away after the main course were were promised the dessert menu. After waiting for twenty minutes we gave up, went to the cashier, paid and left. A wasted evening which spoilt our vist to Canterbury.
