We booked a table for a group of 14 ladies for dinner. We choose the Lake Menu at £20 for 2 courses. The service was very slow and we felt that because we hadn't chosen the more expensive menu they weren't bother with us. We had to go to the bar to get our own drinks and even when someone mentioned where we were going they didn't offer to get out drinks for us. They seemed very attentive to the other diners who were spending more money than us. The food was disappointing especially the main, most of us had the fish which they poured lukewarm watery liquid onto the plate and by the time they had been round everyone and we got to eat it, it was quite cold, there were no vegetables to go with any of the mains.. I mentioned to the waiter that the meal was cold but he didn't seem bothered. I had a dessert instead of a starter I had the fig mille feuille, it was like a very thin strip of cardboard, the only nice bit was the very small scoop of pistachio ice cream. If it wasn't for the bread rolls that were provided and we asked for extra we would have gone home very hungry. A 12% service charge was added to the bill although we felt we hadn't had the service you would expect at a luxury hotel restaurant, I've had better service in the local indian restaurant. We probably wont be rushing back to eat there again, although the setting was very nice.

The hotel is ideally situated in central St Albans and has lots of free parking for guests and hotel visitors. Well cooked and presented full English breakfast for about 70 of us so they ar well experienced in catering for large numbers in quick time.

We stayed as part of a large party which booked the whole hotel. Lovely location surrounded by gardens with its own lake, only 5 mins walk from centre of St Albans.
Our room was on the top floor - well decorated and comfortable though a bit dark. We had dinner in the hotel which was excellent

My partner, her daughter and myself visited the hotel to make arrangements for a wedding next year.
It was such a lovely day and the view from the terrace over the gardens to the lake was so beautiful we decided to have lunch.
I had calves liver, my partner had chicken Caesar salad and our third meal was Coronation Chicken sandwich.
The food was outstanding and the service was very pleasant
The bill included a service charge and came to £44.
We really enjoyed ourselves and are looking forward to returning.

My friend and I visited this lovely hotel for afternoon tea with champagne. The sandwiches, scones and cakes were lovely and it was a nice change to have two types of cream with the lovely strawberry jam for the scones.
The champagne was Moët and served with fresh strawberries.
Lovely tea menu and we enjoyed drinking our choice. The service from the staff was excellent.
Afterwards we strolled through the beautiful hotel gardens to their lake. What a gorgeous setting this hotel would make for a wedding!
