had a business meeting and lunch in the fine and delightful surroundings of this hotel. The food was approaching fine dining- recommended. The 18th century streets outside are a wonderful setting - you can feel the history surrounding you.

Stayed here for business. The welcome was pleasant and the check-in was ok. All the rooms are named after trees on the grounds, and it's the traditional key, so your phone won't deactivate it. There is no lift either of course, so the luggage had to be lugged upstairs

The room was smallish , with a very low ceiling. 6 footers would have to bend down in the room. There was the flat screen tv and shower stall which are necessary for me. The shower stall has no door, just a glass screen that didn't fully prevent water from splashing out

Internet in the room was wifi and fast and complimentary, which was good

Laundry wasn't excellent though, my socks came back a little damp

The hotel bar also wasn't totally great either. The bartender couldn't get the draft beers served in the glass properly. The breakfast was a mixture of a small cold variety (some fruit, yoghurt, cereal etc) and a hot entree you can order (eggs , bacon etc). The fruits were tasteless, other than that, the rest were mostly ok

Afternoon tea was the standard portion of 2 fish, 1cucumber and 1 egg crustless rounds, 4 plain scones (non fruit ) & 6 very small squares of cake.
Wasn't sure if the glass of champagne was actually champagne or cava. There was just enough clotten cream & jam for the scones & they were served still warm which was nice.Sandwiches were a little dry and the fillings pretty thin. Not much worth writing home about. There were no flowers on the table & the crockery was plain white but clean.
It felt as if it delivered what was on the menu but definitely no more. It didn't feel luxurious, generous, opulent or indulgent.
The hotel has been refurbished very well, however sitting in the lounge felt like sitting in a thoroughfare while guests & staff passed through constantly you could feel the floor boards moving . There was a large tv in the bar at the end of the lounge & the noise carried through.Had to ask for our tea order to be taken, then it was poured by a young girl who didnt realise or care it was too weak and not ready to be served.Everything there to make it a great experience but not very well executed.such a shame.

Went for a special birthday lunch with friends. The staff were lovely and the meal first class. The dining room is elegant and the views of the grounds from the windows are delightful. Waiting for my friends to arrive in the lounge was comfortable and staff friendly. It was a lovely hotel to celebrate a special birthday.

Room Tip: We did not stay at the hotel but only had a long lingering lunch at their restaurant. Relaxing and p...

Best man duties at any wedding are a nerve racking experience at the best of times but at St Michael's Manor in St Albans i need not worry. As soon as i arrived in reception i was greeted by Shaun, the concierge, one of the best concierges ive met around the world!!! Shaun immediately put me at ease and took control of everything, bags, envelopes and even props for my speech and told me not to worry im here to help.
we couldnt get to our room until 3pm but we checked in by a very friendly reception team who explained any time after 3 the key is yours.
during the wedding breakfast Anthony the banqueting manager? insured all guests enjoyed the afternoon and evening with such professionalism even finding me an A FRAME for my props and delivering it to the top table during the speech at exactly the right time.
the room: we had a supreior house room, al named after trees, CHERRY was our room and was immaculate if a little hot when we entered, soon controlled by the excellent AC controls. superb facilities and all the extras expected of a top quality hotel.
if there were any negatives they were very minor and did not stop this being one of the best hotels i have stayed in. no drinks were allowed to be consumed on the terrace after 10pm which was strictly controlled by a very dominant security lady marshalling the door...very polite mind you. the other being that breakfast finishes at 09:30am on Saturdays which i thought could have been later but to be fair they were still serving after 09:45
check out was equally efficient and all the staff courteous to the end.... a most pleasant stay!!...and St Michael's Manor hold onto to Shaun....the best of the best!!!!

We stayed 2 nights recently for a friends wedding which was being held at the hotel. The whole experience was a wonderful one. I don't think I can recall staying at a hotel where ALL the members of staff were just so friendly and seemingly happy in their day to day work. The rooms were lovely, not massive but superbly furnished. There are a few stairs to encounter but unless you are elderly they are not a problem and simply adds to its charm. The food we had both at breakfast and the wedding meal was excellent. Parking is ample and close enough to walk into town. The grounds are lush with a lovely pond to wander to. We were lucky with the weather so were able to use the terrace, which was a bonus. If you are ever looking for anywhere in this area do give this hotel a go - I know we will be back if ever we are.

Room Tip: Speaking to other guests of the wedding, all rooms appeared to be well furnished and up to spec. I...

We went here for my Mum's 50th Birthday as a special treat and we were not let down. The hotel and grounds are beautiful, just the perfect location. The staff were lovely and very helpful. We sat on the terrence as it was a hot and sunny day which was lovely. There was a wedding ( staff made this clear from the reservation by telephone), but this did not distract or disturb us, in fact it was pretty to see the bride in her wedding dress! The tea was wonderful and so much choice, we couldn't not finish. The homemade cakes were very tasty. There was gratuity included on bill, which was a surprise (although I should have expected it) and I would have left it anyway so no issues.

An amazing experience and would 100% recommend to anyone.
