The restaurant inside was very nice but really really cold. When asking the waiter if something could be done he just shrugged walked away and said nothing. We then asked the waiter for a mango lasse, it took him nearly 25 minutes to tell us that they were too busy and that we would have to order another drink. That is the first time I have ever been told we can't have something like that. If they had run out of mangos fair enough but he said they did have mangos when i asked but they were just to busy. Perhaps they were, but to be honest there were only four tables full at that time. Then a different waiter served us. I would like to say both waiters were very pleasant but were uninterested in the fact that my girlfriend ate her dinner in her coat because she was so cold. The food came and we have had many curries in many places and the chicken dhansak was runny, tasteless, the chicken was so dry it was hard to swallow, to be honest it felt like it had been reheated in a microwave. The lamb vindaloo wasn't much better either. Very traditional dishes done very badly. After eating dinner in our coats a heater was brought out for the table opposite, which I was pleased about for them but it was to late for us. After all this we were asked if we wanted to leave a tip and I had to bite my tongue. We are not complainers just honest. This is the first bad review I have ever written

Dear Sir,
Sorry to see your comments and disappointment of your visit to our restaurant. I spoke to the waiter who served your table.
Our menu is fully available everyday. The waiter has misunderstood your order apologies for it. Mango Lassi is yogurt base drink and easy to prepare and we keep stock all the times as we were busy the order took a while, waiter explained that he has no intention tell you to have other drink then Lassi.
Please visit us again we will do our best to serve you better. Hope to see you in near future.
Regards,
Samoji

Hidden away down an alley way, this restaurant is the very definition of a hidden gem. I rate it as one of the best restaurants in St Albans in any category. It is without a doubt the very best Indian restaurant in St Albans. It's the food that's most outstanding. Absolutely delicious. Vivid flavours that only come from fresh and natural ingredients, quality meat cooked with a great deal of skill and no dodgy food colourings. Cleanliness, highly professional service and friendliness of staff are also excellent. Cannot rate highly enough.

Having spoken to the staff I understand that the restaurant depends solely on word of mouth to keep its business going. I therefore feel duty bound to heartily recommend.

Came here last night (Thursday) with a couple of friends and we were all pleasantly surprised. Not been here since it was the sultan. Had the chicken sashlik (ignore the spelling) which was one of the best starters I have ever had in a curry house and it was a big portion for a starter. Went for the chicken vindaloo main with mushroom rice which we great.
Bill came to £100 including tip which included £40 for 2 bottles of wine.
Lovely setting and lovely food. Definitely will be coming back.

Always searching for good Indian food around the UK, and after seeing such glowing reviews of this restaurant, our visit to Samoji proved extremely disappointing. Accepting that we had booked an early table on a Sunday evening, we expected the restaurant to be quiet, but not to the degree of being the only party eating until nearly 9.00pm. The restaurant itself is quaintly authentic, but not unlike many other restaurants in St Albans, but the management were obviously saving on costs as there was no heating, despite being asked to put it on, and the same coldness peculated through to the kitchen as all our starters were mildly heated, but far from hot, and similarly all but one of our 6 main courses were just about warm. The time taken to be served could most certainly have been improved but hey ho - you can't win them all! And oh, the food itself was pretty average as well, nothing to differentiate it from the vast majority of similar Indian restaurants. - The search continues.
