Staff very friendly and helpful. Very old building so clearly a compromise at times between the framework of the building and modern standards. I particularly liked the way the floors slope in a number of directions even within a single room.
Good bar with plenty of locals and a wide age range. Very good beers. Steak and ale pie big enough for two people so possibly best to skip the starter if you go for the pie.

We stayed here one night for a weekend get away trip. The pros are: we really liked the way our room with slight uneven floor, low ceiling but with the black beams on top gives the room a very good character. Room got very good heating (I don't like being cold!), and breakfast was simple but nicely cooked. Being above a pub our room (No.2) was quite small but if you are only staying for one night there is not a real worry! Some parking in front of the hotel but also a free parking three minutes walk away.

My wife and I stayed for a single night, and despite there being a wedding party in, nothing was to much trouble for the staff. Our room was beautiful, and the breakfast SUPERB, top marks all round. We will be back many times!

We live locally and wanted a meal for a special famiy occasion. We booked a table for 9 and as the time we requested was 30 mins before they stopped serving food, we were asked to order the food in advance. We also had a cake, balloons, bubbles and table confetti delivered to the pub beforehand.
Upon our arrival the table had been beautifully set - this was all done without my knowledge so a lovely surprise for me! The food quickly arrived, the 3 steaks cooked as requested in 3 different ways and the food was all very tasty. We followed with desserts and cheesboard which were all beautifully presented. The waitress, Charlotte, then brought out the cake and everything else we needed.
The bill was very resonable and nothing was too much trouble.
I'd also like to add how very clean the toilets were too!
Thanks Andy and staff. You all helped make a special occasion into a very lovely day.

We have stayed before at the Talbot and we knew what to expect. The whole ambience is good. The decor and finishes are very pleasant with none of either the sterility or fussiness which characterises some 'restored' hotels/pubs. It combined the pub atmosphere with a professionally run hotel well. The staff were communicative and cheerful, the food particularly the breakfast, is superb. The rooms are comfortable and very clean - a hospitality tray with fresh coffee and a cafetiere amongst other things was a great and unusual touch and most welcome. We had a couple of minor isues dealt with extremely well and would unreservedly recommend the Talbot to anyone!

Room Tip: room 6 - beautiful!

We stayed in The Talbot over bank holiday weekend and found it very comfortable. It is a traditional inn and the building is lovely with little corridors and hidden rooms.

The staff were very friendly and helpful and the hearty cooked breakfast set us up for a day of cycling. We stayed for two nights and on the second day clean towels were left but the room hadn't been cleaned. I am not sure if this was their policy or if they were short staffed but we forgot to check!

The hotel is at the top of the high street and 10 mins from the station
