“Definetely worth a repeat visit”
Reviewed April 4, 2011

Having been to the Talbot in December 2009 for a pre-christmas get together with a group of friends (6 couples, and some single friends), and having been treated to a wonderful evening with great service and food, it was decided that we would repeat the experience again in 2010. This time I persuaded my husband that a stop-over would turn it into a real treat...and we were not disappointed. The room was spacious, decorated in neutral tones, with good quality solid furniture, thick curtains (perfect for keeping out the December cold, and morning light!), but had not lost the quirky features of such an old building - the ensuite shower-room had been cleverly arranged to fit under the eaves, and around the vast chimney breast (I guess someone over 6ft would have struggled with the ceiling height). The shower was as fantastic, I have stayed in places with a trickle of luke warm water, this one was so good it took some persuading to get husband out in order to go for breakfast! We were the first to the dining room, and again were not disappointed with the standard of the food; good selection of juices, cereals, fruit and yoghurt, and lovely strong fresh coffee. Now, I have to say husband is not a 'morning' person, and would have lingered in bed if it were not for me demanding food...but on this occassion I think he was glad I persuaded him to move. Our cooked breakfast arrived, lovely bacon, local sausages, beautiful tasty mushrooms...Mr Happywife very happy with his fried egg done to liking...at this point things turned a bit Faulty Towers! Other guests began to arrive, and started ordering coffees and teas while perusing the menu, orders started to be taken for cooked breakfasts with various requirements...this all proved too much for the waitress; people were waiting ages for drinks, food orders came out wrong....why did she not use paper and a pen? Of course for us, happily fed, and finishing our coffee it was entertaining not annoying, but as an observer it must have left a sour taste for some peoples experience of a great hotel. We are already planning next christmas, and based on our comments others in the party are aiming to stay too. Well done to the Talbot.

When I booked this room they only had "Cromwell's cupboard" I was advised that it was not ensuite and the Bathroom was down the corridor, although it was a private bathroom. I was expecting a dingy tiny room. Boy was I wrong. It was a superb little room. I would describe it as a single First class cabin. It was a single very comfortable bed, It had a large flat screen TV, A basin, a kettle, Fresh Coffee Sachet and Cafetiere, with all the usual. A large cupboard for clothes and bags.

The Inn was clean and freshly decorated, Watch you head if your tall. The corridors have small doorways, but it has plenty of character.

Free wi-fi very useful

Very comfortable night and I wish I was staying longer. I didn't eat at the hotel and left before breakfast was being served.

I would Stay again.

We stayed in Ledbury en route to a Land Rover driving day, and chose the Talbot over anything smarter as we love traditional inns. It didn't disapppoint, from the vast, heavy front door, to the blazing log fire and the oak panellled dining room in which we had breakfast.
The rooms have been refurbished recently - we booked a large double and it was very spacious, with a king size bed, attractive furnishings and a big flat screen TV. The bathroom had a large shower but no bath. The route to the rooms is via winding corridors as you'd expect from such an old building, and there's a charming 'resident's lounge' a bay fronted room overhanging the road.
One small point - we booked on line, and on arrival were told that we couldn't have an evening meal as there was a Christmas party going on. It would have been nice to be informed of this by phone or email. However, the receptionist recommended several other restaurants and we had an excellent meal elsewhere. Breakfast was great, with lots of choice and of good quality - I recommend the scrambled egg and smoked salmon!

Fantastic Meal at the Talbot, Chef cooked up a storm - we had a meal for 7 in the bar, roast pork, roast beef, talbot mixed grill, steak and ale pie, sandwiches etc etc.
Beers, wines all well priced and excellent
Nothing too much trouble and a fine end to a delightful walk into Ledbury.
What more could you ask for

Thanks

Had three nights here on a short break. I'd recommend it to anyone. No car park - but parking outside would only seem to be a problem if you wanted to leave the car during the day. Didn't eat in every night. Breakfast very good, although orders were a bit confused on the last morning. Ideal for exploring Ledbury and using a a base for the surrounding area.

The hotel is situated just off the main street so it was very quiet at night. The hotel staff were polite and very helpful. A very enjoyable, restful stay.

As a 40 something couple, we travel around the UK for spare of the moment breaks. As we are based in Liverpool it is becoming increasingly diffucult to find a place to visit that has Hotels and Restaurants any where near the same quality as our home town. We booked into the Talbot after reading other excellent reviews. What a disappointment this hotel and Ledbury was. The room itself was ok, but the hotel, bar and restaurant was very disappointing. The drink choice in the bar was very limited and the locals were not the most welcoming people I have met. Due to the lack of decent restaurants in Ledbury, we decided to eat at the hotel...this was a bit of a mistake. For starters the pate had not set and was 'mushy' and the goats cheese starter was undercooked. The main of fish was very greasy. The same applied to the breakfast...very greasy. On leaving this hotel we were of the thought that for the money we paid for this trip we could have gone to an excellent restaurant and hotel in Liverpool and had a better time and save ourselves some money.
