Recently moved into a beautiful courtyarded property in Church Lane it was heaving with very happy customers. From baguettes to filled croissants, fresh salmon tart to moules and frite and the pastries made by the owner Pascal ou la la! A fab place for coffee, lunch or tea..and I hope one day supper. We'll be going again and again.

Arrived for lunch having no idea what to expect. Pleasantly surprised. We ate in a pretty flower-filled courtyard.........crepes with various fillings. (Good but a little undercooked .) However where this lovely little cafe comes into its own is in the coffee and cake department. These cakes , authentically and deliciously french are superb. Pascal is a genius. I hope the good people of Ledbury appreciate the master baker they have on their doorstep! The coffee is great too. Strong rich and vibrant. WOW. One thing though.......I can understand why they shut at 3pm ( Pascal gets up at 5.30 every morning to bake ) but because of this they miss the tea-time trade which seems a great shame.

Pascal, you're a gem.and the goody bag was a lovely touch. Thank you.

Chez Pascal is now up and running and is a very welcome addition to Ledbury's vibrancy.

About 20 years ago, the building was occupied by local printers and stationers, it was then converted into restaurant and known as Malt House. Since then numerous different restaurants have all had a go but failed. Chez Pascal is sure to succeed because the proprietor, Pascal Clarenne and his family, had a successful formula at Cafe Sez (on the first floor above a ladieswear shop). The desire to expand and create a cafe/bistro with its identity, the building in the heart of Ledbury's heritage simply lends itself to a lovely experience.

You enter a private courtyard garden in front of the restaurant with outside seating, on the ground floor inside is the restaurant, with serving area and kitchen, and the first floor the staircase to which you can get to without having to walk through the ground floor restaurant provides more tables and sofas.

We popped in mid-morning intending to have a snack and ended up with a mini-meal. Fresh patisserie, pistachio eclairs, crepe with goats cheese and side-salad. Delicious.

There are numerous cafes and restaurants in Ledbury, most of which cater for visitors and tourists, although locals do of course have their favourites. Where the locals eat depends, but ambience and atmosphere is rated highly. Over the years, two places have scored highly on the 'let's go there' list. The first was put out of business when the second opened. The second was sold earlier this year and by all accounts has gone downhill since. With the field to itself, Chez Pascal will I'm sure build on its reputation and should easily move to the top of the list.

(Incidentally, the restaurant is in Church Lane, not Church Street as another reviewer has said: Church Lane is the cobbled lane. Church Street is a side road nearby. Go back in time and Church Lane was known as Church Street but in those days Church Street was known as Back Lane or Hall End so it wasn't as confusing as now!)

Pascal is now in his new premises 'Chez Pascal' in Church Street, Ledbury. Beautiful courtyard for sunny days. Ground floor and 1st floor tables. Looks like it'll be really cosy in the colder months with a wood burner and sofas on the first floor. We had Plat Francais which was as delicious as ever, followed by lovely apricot tarts and coffee. Pascal is a fantastic host, friendly but not to intrusive which is absolutely perfect. A little piece of France in Herefordshire! Looking forward to more fabulous lunches, hopefully in the courtyeard.
