“Eccentric and eclectic”
Reviewed May 31, 2013

Tucked away in the Herefordshire countryside, this extraordinary hotel has only just opened its doors to the public. Martin Miller is a collector of antiques, art and ephemera and the collection is packed into every corner of the building. A blow-up gnome with an electric guitar occupies the grand fireplace in a room which is like an upturned Wedgwood bowl. Fox's Book of Martyrs nestles beside mummified bats. The rooms are grand and spacious, although sadly I was housed in the Potting Shed in a stuffy room with a shared bathroom. But the public rooms, the welcome and the food more than made up for the bedroom, and to be fair the bed was comfortable and the linen immaculate.

Room Tip: Make sure you don't end up in a "cottage", aka the Potting Shed. You can get a mobile...

Had to be in Hay on Wye for business and given it was festival time was told I couldn't stay in town but would have to stay at Great Brampton House about 20 mins away. I was a little disgruntled as I wanted to party a bit in Hay. Foolish me. This is a terrific place: grand, eccentric in a contemporary way set in glorious grounds. The day room is a fantasy of Wedgwood inlay opening out on to a terrace and great lawn and I might have stayed there for hours sipping Mr. Miller the proprietor's gin with a bit of tonic but I did have to work. Everything is grand in this restored house but not musty at all. Staff were tremendously helpful. A wonderful place to escape to, it is it's own world.

I had heard that Great Brampton House was a unique place to stay so booked a room for a weekend in the country . My friend and I were not disappointed, we really had an amazing time, the house is fascinating, a giant cupboard of curiosities, beautifully displayed, eccentric and yet homely. A fire was always burning, drinks tray at the ready, newspapers and bowls of sweets. We walked in the surrounding countryside past fields of orchards and even managed to fit some tennis in on the hotel court. I shall definitely return and can't recommend it enough.

Great Brampton House lives up to its name and is just a GREAT place to stay! My husband and I have been a few times, last time at Easter. It is the most beautiful grand country house packed with amazing antiques and curiosities - but luxurious and comfortable as well. You can sit and chat with the other lovely guests you'll find here, sipping a delicious Miller's Gin and tonic, or escape for some peace and quiet in one of the many drawing rooms. Lovely big bedrooms, very comfy beds, fabulous and attentive staff. It is a great place to escape for a few days or longer, and one of our favourite bolt-holes. Explore the beautiful surrounding countryside (Hereford/Hay-on-Wye, and some fabulous local pubs serving amazing food). Or just hunker down and enjoy the beauty of Great Brampton House and grounds. There is a fabulous Art Gallery on site and walk around the beautiful grounds searching for brilliant and witty art installations - oil paintings up trees, giant eggs etc. We love this place and hope to go back very soon.

Room Tip: All the rooms we have stayed in have been great - check the website for pictures

We LOVED it! My husband, our 10 year old son and I spent a wonderful weekend at GBH in the fall. The house has charm, elegance and whimsy, and the location is the countryside is beautiful. We loved walking on the grounds with ducks and we found lots of fun pieces of art around every corner, while our son spent hours climbing trees. Our room was glamorous and very comfortable, and the bathroom, recently done up, had all mod cons and was warm. We loved relaxing in one of the many drawing rooms with drinks and then enjoyed delicious meals in the dining room. Our hosts, Ioana and Martin Miller, made us feel right at home and we were included at dinner by such an interesting group of neighbours, so we got a feel for life in countryside. A wonderful break from London and would highly recommend it!

WOW...............What a find !!!!

Millers Hideaway at Great Brampton House is a newly opened Hotel venue that still is the private country home of Ioana & Martin Miller.

This idyllic paradise combines the eccentric and creative world of Martin Miller with his obsessive collectors traits that is successfully correlated with the functional luxury of your very own 'Stately Home' to indulge during you stay

The guest rooms are all very well appointed and you will be surrounded by the hallmark and signature style of Martin Millers fetish for antiques, curiosities and classics.

This is Hotel continues to being evolved and Ioana & Martin will adjust the contents and room styles an a very regular basis and to provide an environment to suite the most discerning clientele.

The Hotel is managed and serviced by very polite and helpful staff who will provide for you during your stay and a big plus is that the Hotel is dog friendly and has excellent exercise facilities for both Dogs and Guests.

Check out the website for full and up to date details of this 'not to be missed' Hotel

Comme un gallois qui habite Paris c'est peut-etre mieux que j'écris ça en anglais ( où gallois!) que dans mon français toujours aproximatif sinon abominable.....but Great Bampton House really is such an EXTRA-ORDINARY experience, a very grand country estate given over to the lavish style and hilarious eccentricity of its owner, the antique-trade legend Martin Miller who has spared no expense or flourish on this "hideaway" in the most beautiful country right by the Black Mountains and the Welsh Border....

surrounded by apple tree orchards and the haze of distant hills the landscape looks more like the Tyrol or Northern Italy, the sort of rolling vista that immediately relaxes all the senses, especially when contemplated over one of the delicious cocktails made with the rightly revered gin created by the host, Mr Miller himself, whose own brand is the very best of British....

food is excellent and entirely local, especially the addictive roast potatoes made by the cook, served in the club-like grandeur of the formal dining hall, just one of the many, indeed countless rooms, each of which is decorated in an even more dazzling and sumptous style, packed with precious antiques and lightly sprinkled with amusing and outlandish touches....

and as for the bed, a vast acreage of comfort from which i was reluctant to arise, i highly recommend the suite that originally belonged to the previous owner, the fabled Lady Pigeon, one of England's most redoubtable dealers in rare furniture who understood the essence of high-comfort

bon, en total c'est vraiment une decouverte incroyable, un musée vivant , un 'wunderkammer' total, comme le Soane Museum de Londres transporter dans un coin idéal de l'angleterre....
allez voir !
