Definitely worth a visit at any time. Delicious cakes in the tea room and a well stocked shop, the Mappa Mundi uniqueness is a must visit. The Cathedral itself is particuarly magical if you catch a choral practice or Evensong. At present a lovely exhibition showing the work of special needs groups in Herefordshire Orchards linked with Bulmers is on. Organ recitals are also worth plugging into your visiting schedule. The newly landscaped surroundings are classy and in-keeping with our special beacon of Herefordshire - designed by Robert Myers and Associates (Chelsea Designer). There are always helpful volunteer guides around and they can really make the artefacts and relics come alive with unique stories. You can buy a permit for photography.

Found this cathedral quite entertaining and informative. Smallish in size compared to other cathedrals visted, it does have some amazing architecture.

The cafe was cramped and aimed at two person tables, narrow and very cramped. Staff did not really want to help out and some visiting clergy (whether they were local or not I do not know) we exceptionally rude when trying to find an area to sit.

Some of the other staff were not too helpful either, talking loudly in the small room with the new stain glass windows.

Perhaps a trip to Durham Cathedral would be in order to help those at Hereford understand what customer service is all about.

We recently visited Hereford Cathedral, while staying in the area, and decided to take the tour of the tower. If you can manage a climb of 218 steps then please do it. The view from the top is great and also half way, when you get to the place where you listen to the bells it is really interesting to know how they work. We were lucky to be in a party of only three, so had a very personal explanation of the place. It is quite amazing the view looking down into the Cathedral and seeing the altar and coronet from so high up. The view from the top of the tower is great and we were so lucky with the sunny day that we had a great view of the surrounding area and the distant hills, all explained very well by a member of staff. Sadly we hadn't got our cameras with us, otherwise there would be some photos to attach. The tour takes about 45 minutes in total and afterwards we had lunch in the Cathedral gardens, with lovely food from the café. All in all a really enjoyable experience

Very warm welcome for the early communion in the Lady Chapel. Clearly a really lively faith community that welcomes visitors. Highly recommended.
