“Not great”

If you have a small budget and no other option, then book here, otherwise look further afield. The rooms are dated, My room was creaky, poorly lit, missing hooks from shower curtain, missing basics like a loo brush, poorly fitted flooring, the door lock wasn't fastened properly and you needed to slam it to shut it. The bed had little support, I don't like a bed that's too firm, but this was taking the mickey. The outlook from my room, granted it was a courtyard, but it wasn't exactly nice to look at, untidy and dirty.
The breakfast was mediocre at best, buffets only work if there's a lot of people, I was the only one there and the food looked like it'd be prepared a few hours before I'd arrived. The check in receptionist was friendly and helpful, check out a bit grumpy, the breakfast room staff were fine.
All in all this hotel is very dated and I would not recommend it.

Room Tip: Do not stay in a courtyard room

We booked this hotel on a KGB deal for £89 for 2 nights bed and breakfast with dinner on the first night. For this price it was good value. The hotel was obviously well appointed years ago and now it is very much faded. However the staff were friendly and helpful, the room was adequate but agree that sheets and blankets are not really enough although we did have a throw to put over and we did need it. The king size bed would have been good if the bed linen was designed for theat rather than a double. The room was clean but again needed sprucing up a bit. But everything was there including a heated towel rail and toiletries, iron and ironing board as well as trouser press. The water was just warm enough for a bath/shower if the hot water was run on its own. The breakfast was perfectly adequate for £4.95 which is what they charge if you pay separately and you can ask for fried eggs and porridge(although it was Redybrek). The evening meals were a mix of English and Indian and was an eat as much as you like on the night we ate. Again food was good and the drinks not too pricey. I agree you would be disappointed if you paid full price, but it is definitely worth thinking about on a deal as long as you realise it's best days were in the past. Our ratings reflect this, although for the price we paid I would have rated it slightly higher The room was large and quiet despite being on the main road apart from the road sweepers about 5 in the morning. Hereford is a lovely town and well worth the visit.

Stayed here for three nights on a great deal with Breakfast and Evening Meal. There was buffet on two nights which was outstanding, credit to the chef on the standard of food. The hotel is an old hotel in the centre of Hereford and it is a bit tired in places BUT it is clean, friendly staff and a good mix of older staff and younger members. From checking in to leaving found everyone extremely friendly. So nice to have staff acknowledge you when passing with a 'good morning' .The food was very good and service was efficient. We had afternoon coffee in the lounge after a long day of walking and the lady who looks after the lounge was really lovely. A great feeling of peace in the lounge to read a newspaper or book after a busy day. The bedroom was large and more than adequate for our stay. The bed I found extremely comfortable. Would certainly stay here again on my next visit to Hereford.

Room Tip: There is a lift if you find the stairs a bit of a climb.

Went with my husband on the 2 night KGB deal for a second time. Yes the hotel is way past its prime and needs a serious refurb but it's ok. We got there after 7pm but managed to find a space in their free car park. Check-in was quick and easy. The lift is small and slow. There were small problems with our room - bathroom ceiling paint peeling off, handle loose and missing a couple screws, no complimentary shower gel or body wash but lots of shampoo and not enough lights/lamps once the curtains were drawn but nothing major. I thought the bed was going to be really uncomfortable as it was so hard but we slept alright. The good pillows helped. I didn't mind the old fashioned blankets either; they didn't look or smell dirty so no problem. The room had a good iron and ironing board which were great for getting ready in the evenings. Dinner included on the first night was a buffet (as a coach party had booked in) rather than the set menu which suited us fine. I'm one of these weird people that enjoys roast chicken, lamb curry, diced swede and pilau rice on the same plate so I was happy! The Indian selection was particularly tasty. I was keen to try the chicken pakora which had run out so asked a waiter to ask the chef if he'd mind rustling up some more which he duly did. They were delicious. Restaurant staff were friendly and generally efficient except for a long wait for a glass of water. The buffet breakfast the next day had plenty of choice - yoghurt, fruit, juices, cereals, sausages, bacon, scrambled eggs and lots more. We went down later rather than early on both mornings and the cooked food was still hot and fresh looking/tasting. The dining room itself is a nice space as are the reception and lobby areas. Don't make the mistake I did and finish your Cafe Nero coffee on one of their sofas during the day though; apparently the manager doesn't like it...oops! The one thing I couldn't figure out was why there was a really strong smell of cigarette smoke in the lobby each evening when we were let in after 12pm - strange. The morning we left there was no-one on reception to get the car park exit code from. After a long wait a cleaner found it for us. Only problem was it didn't work so my husband had to go back in and wait until the desk was manned again. We'd stay at the hotel again on a deal as they represent good value for money when an evening meal and 2 nights B&B are included. If we'd have paid the rack rate it would have been a different story. I like the hotel's location near to the cathedral and shops. There are also some lovely restaurants and pubs within a five minute walk. Try Thai on Wye or The Grapes for dinner. And you definitely shouldn't leave without visiting The Lichfield Vaults for a few drinks; Andy the landlord makes you feel really welcome and at home.

Room Tip: We had Room 120 which we were surprised to find included a double and single bed. It overlooked a q...

Checked in to the hotel at midnight. Was met by a nice friendly night porter who swiftly took my payment and gave me info on parking and breakfast times.
The room was very outdated like the whole hotel. There was a very strong musty old peoples home/curry smell throughout the whole hotel.
The bathroom well where do I start even though it was clean the toilet seat (wooden was separating from years of urine on the front of it. the bath panel (wood) was separating from water damage from shower and there was a huge stain on the ceiling from a leek. The bed itself was quite comfy but had a blanket rather than duvet.
Didn't get a lot of sleep even though the clocks went back because of constantly creaking floor boards and doors slamming throughout the night.
I didn't sample the breakfast as the smell of the hotel put me off so got a receipt and made a swift exit.
Would I return DEFINITELY NOT.
This hotel needs huge investment and a charge of £50 single B&B is a total rip off.
BEWARE !!!!

Room Tip: Book a different hotel.

3 couples stayed for one night and despite some of the negative reviews we all found the hotel to be very warm, welcoming and friendly.

We all felt the hotel had really nice charm and character.

The location is right in the city centre.
