“Friendly staff, great location”

The green dragon is an old hotel, so if your expecting Travelodge boxy type 'same as' rooms, forget it. I stayed in 238, and found it clean enough, warm enough and comfy enough. I had a good wander round the hotel and it all looked perfectly acceptable. The third floor is apparently haunted, which is always a bonus for me! I had a bed, breakfast, cream tea deal via groupon for £39 for two people. An absolute bargain. I also ate in the john spicer restaurant for an all u can eat evening meal. Nothing spectacular, but ok. I would definitely stay here again, especially on a deal.

Well-furnished, considerate hotel, good staff, secure environment, lovely large lounge with gasfire, friendly atmosphere and quality food. Nice selection of beers in the bar. Excellent location smack in the city centre near to the cathedral.

We were another groupon stay, and at the price it was a bargain. The hotel is perfectly situated, virtually opposite the cathedral, and the town centre has some interesting buildings (the site of Nell Gwynne's birthplace, even) and nice riverside walk.
The location means parking can be tricky. The hotel has a car park to the rear but on our stay was impossible to find a place the first day and night. Their is an arrangement with NCP to use a car park nearby between 6pm and 10 am for £2.50 instead of the usual £8. Hereford can also be a bit of a traffic bottleneck.
It is a typical old hotel in a market town: large rooms and some chipped paint. Also dead insects in the lighting and some damp mould in the shower but the room was clean and large. A tiny flat screen you needed binoculars to watch while sitting in bed. We were looking into a VERY ugly central well area.
Self service buffet breakfast in the attached Thai/Indian restaurant (cold mushrooms and hash browns) where you can also get an all you can eat World buffet in the day and evening. It's OK.
A very comfortable large lounge great for reading papers and enjoying a cream tea. Very friendly staff.

Room Tip: Ask for an outside room preferably facing Broad Street

I know its already been said that this hotel could do with updating but we found a warm welcoming hotel with a fabulous dining room, a very comfortable lounge and a friendly greeting from Claire on reception. Our room was big and had a roomy bathroom, where everything (shower/bath etc) worked. We slept well, it was very quiet and breakfast was self-service with plenty of choice. Excellent value on our groupon deal and the cream tea was also lovely.
The Thai restaurant next door was OK but very busy and noisy. Lunch at ASK, a few doors down was poor -bland pasta dishes and a very very long wait.
If you fancy a guided tour of the cathedral - there is one each week day at 11.05 - really good.

although a groupon voucher visit there was no downgrading of the facilities or meals.
has an excellent room on the top floor with a cathedral view. Clean, quiet and comfortable.
really large window in the bathroom giving loads of light.
only downside was the bed side rug which was curled at the edges and could have caused a tripping hazard.
Afternoon tea in the lounge was very British. Scones cream and jam
The buffet style dinner and breakfast offered excellent choice and quality.
Car parking only for about 20+ cars so on a first come first served basis.
Staff really good.

Shall we go to Hereford in February? Why not? Worked out well. Booking was straightforward - asked for Sunday night. Room on third floor was warm and comfortable. Cream tea and breakfast both fine. Reasonable food just down the road. Nearby pub in Good Pub Guide, excellent value. Handy parking, out of the back door, then over the road.

I stayed here with a friend on a group on deal. The hotel was certainly grand in its day, the rooms do need updating but were clean. the restaurant staff were pleasant and attentive. It was a great deal which we thoroughly enjoyed. If you are hoping for mod cons, pay more and go elsewhere.
