went via Groupon so saved alot of money. Were visiting friends in hereford so needed somewhere convenient to stay. Large hotel in the centre of hereford right on the doorstep of the city centre and pubs. Had a lovely cosy twin room with a nice clean bathroom with fully working shower and comfy beds. We had a tv with freeview and the cleaner came in on both days. I think from looking at the reviews we must have had one of the refurbished rooms. brilliant buffet style breakfast which you could help yourself to and a large decorative dining room. All in all a great place to stay, could'nt fault it at all

Room Tip: room 309 lovely spacious room but overlooks the back of the hotel but not a problem of you don't mind

I have just spent two nights at the hotel.Whilst cleanliness was not an issue the whole place was in need of an upgrade. The radiator did not work properly in the room and despite a request was not attended to. There was no heating(radiator) in the bar, lounge and foyer. Not adequate for February. Very tired decor.

This hotel is brilliantly located in the heart of Hereford. It offers good value and the staff are helpful and friendly. However, don't expect a swish hotel and gleaming chrome! This hotel is a bit old and creaky. If you don't mind squeaky floorboards, worn carpets and the odd thing which doesn't work 'as new' then you will like this place. If you want 'modern', go somewhere else! The hotel restaurant does a good curry buffet and they serve proper Wye Valley beer in the bar. The breakfast was OK.

I know a lot of people on here have given the Green Dragon bad reviews, but we didn't have problems with it. (We stayed there before I discovered TripAdvisor). The room was clean and big enough for all of us. It was a bit run down, yes, but everything worked properly. The floors were very squeaky, but that's to be expected in such an old building. The beds weren't the greatest, but we were only there one night. It might have been bothersome had we been there longer. The parking was interesting. There was an event there when we got there, and all of the parking was gone, so we had to park elsewhere until that night. It was within easy walking distance of everything. Breakfast was on the good side of average, and they even indulged my odd American request for a glass of ice. There was free wifi in the lobby.

It is not difficult to give this a rating of 4 as we had a good time and at £60 for a twin room in the centre of Hereford so near the Cathedral has to be seen as pretty good value, even in January.

However, as other reviewers have indicated, it is a rather jaded and needs updating. This, though, could be levelled at hundreds of hotels that were in their heyday in different times. Current economic conditions are unlikely to prompt a major revamp so no complaints that they will sell the place on location.

Staff were helpful and fixed the tv as soon as we announced a problem. One modernisation has taken place. Putting tiny desktop tvs in rooms. Why do hotels think that installing screens smaller than my i pad are going to get anything other than a negative comment?

There was a a lack of anything more than luke warm water in the room but it was very comfortable, airy and big. We did not eat at the hotel but the menu looked promising and realistically priced.

Summing up, it is in a prime location and as long as you are paying no more than we did just accept it is a big, old hotel trying to provide a good experience.
