Description: The Bistro at the Hotel du Vin in Winchester is exactly where the whole stylish, witty, wine-loving hotel group began 25 years ago. Centrally located in one of Winchesters most important Georgian buildings, dating from 1715. The Bistro offers seasonal menus rooted in classic French cuisine from head chef Stuart Law. Recently refurbished with muted colours on the period panelling, stripped wooden floors, upholstered chairs, and origional fireplaces. The wine list is, of course, extensive and eclectic, with many available by the glass, and pre dinner cocktails can be enjoyed in the bar, so you may wish to stay the night in one of the 24 individually-decorated rooms.

Ate here last night with friends.
Had the pork and rabbit pate en Croute to start. Dry pastry, and dry, flavourless filling. I've had much tastier Ginsters sausage rolls.
Main course was the dressed Devon crab with chips. The crab was over diluted with want I presume was creme fraiche, and saved on a slice of toast so rock hard, it was almost impossible to cut.
Chips were ridiculously thick, and there were 4 of them from memory.
Do yourself a favour, avoid. You will save yourself a fortune as well.

Hotel du Vins are generally very good and so was this one. Katarzuna our waitress was superb and explained the dishes very well. The onion soup was very nice with a thick cheese topping. I then had a fillet steak cooked just right. My wife had sole meunière which was very good. Shared an ice cream to finish with. All in all a good evening.

Located within two blocks of great shopping on High Street, and walking distance to Winchester Cathedral, this charming hotel was the perfect choice! The hotel staff was very efficient, friendly, ready to assist with all requests, and seemed to function as a team. Our room was impressively clean, and well stocked (with food and drink available for purchase), good air conditioning, and the most comfortable bed ever! The bath had a lovely towel warmer that made it feel quite luxurious. The gardens and grounds were very well manicured with great outdoor seating areas for nice weather days. The room was only surpassed by the bistro dining experience. From a three course sumptuous meal to breakfast fit for a king. We enjoyed the Hotel du Vin in every capacity and have already made plans to return when next we are in the U.K.

Booked this Bistro for my husbands birthday, got a great on-line deal, and was looking forward to it all week. We had a lovely 3 course meal. The problem came when ordering extra drinks, one reason or another my husband, whose birthday meal we were celebrating never actually received his drinks! The staff were lovely and very apologetic, but it wasn’t great that I had my drink and he didn’t have one. They did reduce our bill by 10% to reflect the issue. But sadly we had to move onto a local pub to get the missed drink. Such a same. Not a great first impression. But the food was lovely
